Couple of Questions

Post by Max 86 »

1. I have seen in some instances where the ball flight animation does not work. It is random and unpredictable. Is this related to my PC or the game? Also, long animation times occasionally occur.

2. I had a SP that suffered a major hip injury and was supposed to be out for 5-1/2 wks so I put him on the 60-day disabled list. A week later I checked the Injured list and it said he would be ready in 9 days! Whats up with that? Now he is locked up on the DL even though he is healthy.

Thanks in advance.

Regarding number 1, I think it may be a mix of both.  I play in 1024 x 768 and get odd animations every once in a while.  For me, it is how the play ends up as opposed to where the pixels end up.

Regarding the long animations, I have found that if you hit enter while ball is in flight, it jumps to the resolution instantly.

I can't speak to number 2 (somehow, that does not sound right....) since I have not had it happen to me.

I play without the damned little ball flight of hell, so I can't comment on #1.

For #2, I have witnessed occasions where the player was out for 4 1/2 weeks and it actually took a little over 5 for him to heal. Conversely, there have been times where it was supposed to take 3 weeks and he was good to go in about 14 or 15 days. Things like this are guesses, and the "team doctors" estimate how long it should take. Seeing a slight deviation from that time frame (as I mentioned above) is one thing- seeing an injury go from almost 40 days to healed in 16 is quite a feat!

Have you noticed this before or since? Perhaps your player is a quick healer or the duration of the injury was overstated?

One thing I would suggest, and this is something that I practice myself, is to avoid using the 60-day DL as much as possible. If a player is injured for 45-days or less, I would rather put him on three 15-day DL stints than 1 60-day stretch. This way, [1] you get him sooner (in 45 days vs 60) and [2] should he experience a healing miracle, you're not stuck watching a perfectly healthy guy sitting on the bench playing Solitaire on his laptop in the middle of a critical game.

Wow, don't hold back now, tell us how you really feel about the animation. [;)]

LOL! [:D] I've called it a "ball flight of hell" on occasion, but that's only when I see a good pitch being rocketed out of the playing field by an opposing batter! [X(]

Wow, I forgot I started this thread!

Thanks for the responses.

The ball flight thing doesn't bother me but the miracle healing players do. It is rare but I have seen it twice in seven fictional seasons. But I have followed Frozen's advice and started using the 15-day disable list exclusively.

Now, if only Shaun can get the player aging model to turn player's hair gray and add wrinkles to their pics! [:D]

One thing I would suggest, and this is something that I practice myself, is to avoid using the 60-day DL as much as possible. If a player is injured for 45-days or less, I would rather put him on three 15-day DL stints than 1 60-day stretch.

This is exactly what real MLB teams do. They nearly always initially move injured players to the 15-day DL regardless of the severity of the injury. They would only then move the player to the 60-day DL if they want to replace him on the 40-man roster.

The terms of condition for getting to replace the player on the 40-man roster is that the injured player may not play for 60 consecutive days and that he can't be moved back to the 15-day DL once he is placed on the 60-day DL. So as long as the team doesn't feel that the 41st guy in their organization can help them immediately, they tend not to move injured players to the 60-day DL.
