I know I will get slammed for this, but I think the option of minors being run by AI until lapse or victory occurs should be an option. subsequent to this, the major gets control of the power.

This alleviates a number of disagreements about how minors should be run. This can be an OPTION for those that don't want to use it...but it would seem easy to implement since the AI already runs it for single player games.

Those that would not like this, can not use it.

Well. By doing so, you rule out a part in diplomacy, if you somehow could bribe/persuade other nations not to try control.
Game should turn over the nation to the one DOW'ing if noone wants control(for one reason or the other).

no, there is no difference in diplomacy, only after war is declared on a minor, the AI runs the immediate war, then control goes to influencing, controling country.

So lets say i play spain.
I persuade all other nations to not take control of Portugal, when i DOW.
If they follow my wishes.

Who gets control of Portugal then ? Since now i do not have to actually attack it, but will automaticaly have ít as a Freestate.

No a country would get control, but while the initial war is undergoing, the AI fights the attacker....if spain loses, whomever had control will get portugal.
If spain wins, spain gets it...

this prevents GB from using portugese fleet to attack france if there is no war between spain and france.

Ponder, i prefer the way it is, as bad as it might sounds to you.
IF I as Spain persuade all human players not to try control of Portugal, "whoever does" both sides wanna keep me happy, so this is not undoable.
This way i get the intact freestate without loosing factors.

Also you should remember players do loose PPs if they loose battles with controlled minors. So all Spain would have to do to avoid the portugeese fleet to run to France to die, is move his own fleet into the sea area and order it attack enemies on sight. Or just threaten about it. Before dowing.

Hello,

I agree, it's correct the way it goes actually.
In fact, a minor country at this time could not manage a war against a major one. Duke, baron or what ever always deal with other major or just surrend to the major who declare war to them.

It's the correct reflect of diplomacy in 1805.

Julien.
