Hey jdhalfrack, a question

Post by garysorrell »

First the praise and adulations--thanks for all your work on the editor. Its a HUGE help.

Now to the question

In the 'Players Table' there is a column for CurrentSalary

Would it be possible in your editor to have some sort of function to assign a salary to each player.

I know this opens a pandoras box of all kinds of variations and variables. But if the number were controlled by an editable txt file or something.

1.)Salaries could be calculated for each position, based on maybe 3 ratings key to that position, and their age and/or years pro.

2.)Have a base salary, or minimum wage and maybe a maximum

3.)Have an option to increase the amounts by a % to simulate players wanting more at the end of their contracts. This could be applied by selecting all players and sorting by Length of contract and current year

4.)Have an option to subtract from 'current year'.

This would mainly be helpful for online leagues. Commishes could manually enter the other info like contract length and such.

Just a suggestion, curious if it could be implemented

Thanks

Yes. <-- short answer

Long answer --> Although this is possible, and probably fairly easy to program, it will (as all additions) take time. My guess would be that the utility (either a seperate one or an addition to mine) would need to be run at the end of each year (probably after drafting).

you gave a pretty good explination of what you want done, but if you could literally step-by-step breakdown how you want it figured and run, that would be great. Then we can go from there.

My guess is that it would somehow have to take into consideration stats output. Not sure how, but it should.

Did you look at the files I sent you for this?

As I recall, they show how salaries can be set by stats, skills, or draft position.

There are few areas built into the player file including player attitude. It can be done, but it takes time. Alas, it also takes more VB knowledge than I have. I have given some information to JD though, and it is an area that he may attempt at some future date for 2.x. As always, I cannot speak for him on if or when this may be attempted.

I don't recall the files. Was it a while back? If so, you may need to re-send them (I tend to lose things easily on my desktop)

Yeah, this is exactly what I am thinking. I bet we can get a pretty good salary generator developed with enough minds on it. But, it will take time (heck, I started making the DB editor back in November, and it's still not done... or even a DB editor... it just edits players right now).

Its gonna take time
A whole lot of precious time
Its gonna take patience and time, ummm
To do it, to do it, to do it, to do it, to do it,
To do it right child
heck, I started making the DB editor back in November, and it's still not done...

My question is a simple one I hope

I love the editor first off.
is there a way to add an output option. This way you can say output all the rookies or free agents to a list. This would t5o me make a lot of sense for Owners and the Commish. the file would be in HTML or TXT and would show the ratings for the player.
also do the same for teams rosters,Retired and so on.

just asking.

Soon. I already have an option to import/export rosters in .csv format for version 1.6. That isn't exactly what you need, but for now see how it works. Eventually I plan on doing HTML and TXT printouts.

Well, I would likely defer to the more educated and informed here, who could likely explain it better. But, just little ole me is looking for something like this:

1.)In season 1, assign a salary to all players. Although you could do it anytime in case its an existing league that has already played a few seasons.

2.)Have an option to ONLY assign a salary to rookies, so as not to affect existing salaries

3.)Be able to fill in the 'Length of contract' box for each player. Dont think this would be auto, have to be done manually. Unless people just wanted a random spread to start with

4.)Be able to fill in the 'Current Year Of Contract' box

5.)Subtract 1 from 'Current Year Of Contract' at end of each season

I guess salary should be adjustable, a high and low end, so people could play in different eras.
A salary could be based on each position, using ratings that are specific to that position, and maybe age and years pro.
This could keep players on a scale for each position.

Now I need people smarter than me to figure out the specifics :-)
