6 Player Great Patriotic War

Post by JAMiAM »

Here's the open AAR thread for the 6 Player Great Patriotic War game, detailed in this thread

AGN opens the game with a typical Blitz, destroying most Soviet frontline forces, except those pocketed, out of supply, and soon to be mopped up by the German infantry reserves. Total losses were 17 Rifle, which was about half as many as were set to produce on the first turn. Open roads to the Dvina crossings beckon the Schwerpunkten. Other than the results shown in the screenshot, the only other action was some minesweeping of Riga harbor, by the Kriegsmarine and Finnish destroyer flotilla.

Interesting first turn for AGN. The turns are shorter than the other Russia 41 scenario yet the results here are better in terms of losses. In the previous scenario more Soviets troops would survive turn 1 than are shown here surviving, and the turn 1 in that scenario represents a month rather than a week.

While few men,legislators or otherwise,
have felt downthe years they could command ships of the line or marshall air armies without specialized training, almost
any fool has felt in his heart that he could command a regiment.

Too bad.... it's hard for us popcorn eaters to tell where on the map the pics are from....

Sorry about the labels, but I did not want to edit the scenario to enable anything. The temptation to give myself 20 extra production cities might have been too great...[;)]

Speaking of production, I notice that though Helsinki can build ships, no other German cities can. Seems to me that Konigsberg (or perhaps Stettin) should be able to, should the urge to do so, possess an otherwise sane German player.

AGS Turn 1

After a bit of a barf-up with email, we continue ...

Pz Grp I is trying to prise it's way through the Soviet blanket to the NE of Lvov, thus pocketing the troops there who can be mopped by 17th Army. Meanwhile to the north 6th Army has crossed the river and is making steady progress.

Most importantly (though not shown), I managed to get most of the Romanians across the river without too many losses. It's a bit tricky down there ...

It won't affect the game that we have already started. We would have to start over to take advantage of any changes.

AGN clears the last visible Soviets west of the Dvina River, and are ready to breach that barrier in the next turn. Especially gratifying was the destruction of the Soviet Heavy and Medium Tanks attempting to block the way to Riga.

I know it won't last forever, but it's good to see that the loss ratios are still highly favorable.

First partisan attacks were witnessed. Obviously, some disgruntled citizens of Kaunus had fallen for the lies of the Soviet Propaganda machine, and armed with pitchforks and sickles, attempted to storm the local commander's HQ. They were cut down without mercy.

Turn 2 to AGC. Last one to cross the Volga is a rotten egg!

Soviet center was absolutely devastated in turn 1 - the Germans in this scenario move so fast and fight so hard - it's true Blitzkrieg. Very scary.

As long as the Germans have their historic supply problems then it should all still be good........

AGS Turn 2 complete. Steady progress.

The Soviet general seems to be adopting a stand and fight strategy. This area is about the only one of the three where that might work ... I'm making sure the Schwerpunkt doesn't get bogged down though. Or at least not until we get to the Dneiper anyway ;)

Report from Russian Southern Front: Devastating losses have been reported by all army commanders. The enemy seems to have overwhelming power and are driving deep into our territory whilst our forces are very small in comparison and unable to put up any kind of fight.  We are retreating to try and save what we can [:(].
