Strategic losses-How come...

Post by hbrsvl »

... I can rack up over 400 hits in a single turn, but only get a gain of 34 strategic points for that turn? This has happened not once but several turns. I know they can do repairs, but on that scale in one turn?

Yes, the raids have been made on the same cities, mostly hitting manpower, which seems to give the most bang for the buck.

Details-scen. 15, 2/44, v1.806, game setting at historical, no FOW. I've taken all of Kyushu and all but one outskirting islands. I'm at a 2.4978:1 ratio-trying to get a decisive victory in 1944.

Comments and hints, please. Thanks, Hugh Browne

You should get points whether or not they repair...

What location(s) are you hitting?? [&:]

rtrapasso-Currently hitting the following:
Hamamatsu-resources,manpower, heavy industry.
Gumma-manpower
Osaka/Kobe-manpower
Matse-manpower
Oakayama-Manpower
Matsuyama-manpower
Hiroshima-Manpower
Tokyo, once in a while.

I'm hitting with B-24s, PB4Ys, B-25s, Bostons. Too early for the B-29s.

Thanks, HB

Hmmm... these are definitely home island bases, so you should be getting points for each strategic target damage...

You might try switching to other targets to see if you can "shake up" the scoring routine (sometimes the game gets stuck in weird loops and doesn't get out until you do something different.)

In Speedy's AAR he got much better results attacking other facilities directly (HI, armaments, airplane factories, etc), rather than attacking manpower.

Well, it depends if you are going for points, or trying to get the economy to collapse.

By bombing manpower, you actually strengthen the Japanese economy since it no longer has to feed that population (i.e. - the manpower that was destroyed).

Hi, Not all hits are equal. Is the range normal or extended? (A 100lb HE hit is not the same as a 500lb or 1000lb hit) This is the same as in naval combat. (a 16in hit is better then a 3in hit)
Fire bombing will score a lot of points on major cities if fire level is very high and can be maintained over several days/weeks.

I have an AAR of a test of strategic bombing and points scored per mission.
Allies scored a victory over Japan via bombing alone. (Once airfields in range of B-29 were secured no land combat or Naval combat was allowed)

Only Home Island or centers belonging to Japan on 7 Dec 1941 score VP.

Don't track hits track actual amount target is reduced. Example
Factory has 100 points.
Target bombed new stats show 89(6) this means 89 points still functioning 6 damaged. 5 points have been destroyed. Only destroyed produce points. (you cannot repair destroyed. You must build new and these new points are now available as targets and more VP for Allied player.
Hope this helps

I'm not retreating, I'm attacking in a different direction!

Only destroyed produce points.

Not entirely correct.

-DAMAGED- facilities produce 2 points for each damaged. Not 2 points for each hit, but per damaged point.

Example :
If the target facility is max 100
Your bombers score 34 industry hits. This might translate into:
15 damaged and 85 are functioning.
You will get 30 points for the 15 industry points damaged.

Mog can probably say how many points you get for DESTROYED industry (might be 10 per). Buy you do get 2 points per damaged.

And if they're repaired, you can get 2 points again...

You may be getting hits on centers that are already damaged. There aren't so many manpower centers in a hex. Attack resources, or HI.
