Vanishing PBEM Passwords

We've had a problem in a PBEM game I'm hosting. The game was set up manually, not by using the GAP, the password option was selected.

After a while it became necessary to produce a backup file for everyone. When this was done, all players except the game host had their passwords set to be blank.

So the game backup reset all passwords BUT the host?

Yes. My password is still working correctly, everyone elses' is blank. It prompts for a password but only accepts a blank one (just hitting return).

I've heard of this happening in another game too.

I've experienced something like that. It happens when you do a back_up - the file contains the password given at game creation (the one from GAP or blank if GAP wasnt used).
I think it may have something to do with shich passwords are avaliable on the hosts copy of the game?
