BOB II and "older" systems

Post by genehaynes »

First, I really like this game. I bought it last week primarily because of the ability to plan missions (Strategic level) and then have the opportunity to fly in the missions you created (tactical 3D level).

However, my system (Dell Dimension 8250 P4 2.8GHz, 512mb ram, Radeon 9700 Pro card w/ 128 mb memory) has trouble running the game without getting CTDs. I have no problem running IL2 BTW. Also, if I only play from the Strategic or Tactial level (i.e. Either fly the planes via "Instant Action", or play the Campaign without jumping into the missions) I don't get any CTDs.

The Shockwave forum gives some very good advice on how to prevent CTDs (mainly - Disable Norton and any other unneccessary services/processes). It seems that BOBII and Noton do not get along.

Lately I've used msconfig to disable all Norton related services before running this sim. This seemed to help, although it wasn't 100% effective. And, as you know, restarting your computer every time you want to play can be a pain.

I know my system is at the bottom end of the required specs to run this game, I just wanted to give you a heads up in case you have an older system like mine. Don't think that if your older system runs IL2 fine, it will run BOBII the same way. I'm not a computer expert, but I think the memory requirements are more demanding for BOBII when you combine the Strategic and Tactical portions of the game.

BOBII is a great game. My plan is to convince my wife that WE need to upgrade OUR computer.[:)]
