Game extremely slow

Post by user099 »

Couldn't find any other post describing this problem: The game seems to be functioning without problems with mouse moving and screen scrolling but the units move unplayable slow. And I'm not meaning anything "slow selected from the options" -slow but a laggy and bug like slow. Any ideas or am I just stuck with an unlucky rig that doesn't tun the game correctly?

Got WinXp and Travelmate 6292. Only interesting fact that I can think of is that the laptop has Intel GMA965 chipset.

I know you said not to do with options.

but just to be sure, there are 2 places to control speed... do you have the top one set on FAST?

Yep, I do. It has no effect. The movement speed of units really is maybe couple of frames per second.

Do you have video acceleration enabled?

Yes I do. Except AGP Texture Acceleration is not available with GMA965. Other games have been working.

Poop. So this one doesn't work. Well, wasn't much of a monetary loss.

Can you send a dxdiag report to

I am seeing the same thing here, on a fairly recent Dell laptop. Was this ever resolved? Thanks!

EDIT: More info... I am also seeing the same thing on a decent desktop machine. As the other user noted above, the interface is fine, but the units move very slowly, even with the "Fast" setting. For example, moving the squad in the first tutorial from the railroad to the rail station takes about a minute. Also, the game clock in the first scenario runs at about half speed, e.g. 10 secs on the clock actually takes 20 seconds to run.

Perhaps it is supposed to be this slow? I have not played a CC game before, so I have no basis for comparison, but this doesn't seem right.

EDIT2: I have captured a short video of what I am talking about, and you can find it here. That is with the "Normal" speed setting.

What speed are you playing at...see options picture above.

Set game speed to Fast to play at normal speed.

The video was taken at normal speed. However, I noticed that for new players, the normal speed is recommended (in the manual, I believe), which is why I tried that first. It is more tolerable at fast, but it still doesn't feel like real-time, in terms of the distance covered by infantry for a given time.

Can you confirm from the video that this is indeed the expected behavior? I just want to make sure that it is not a machine-specific problem or a bug.

Now I suspect that for real missions with a large number of units, the slower pace will be appreciated and necessary, but it gives a confusing first impression (probably what the poster above was commenting on).

With the game set at FAST the timer will run 10 seconds in about 10 seconds.

If that is happening then it should be fine.

I could not tell from your short video if it was working correctly.

Yes, the fast mode appears to have the clock running in real time. I guess it makes sense to continue playing that way. Thanks.

There is no "hyper speed" mode in CC.

fast = real time

medium and slow are slower than real time.

glad it's working

cheers
