Kickoffs

I have just purchased the game last week and have read the manual or anything, but I played 2 fast sim games as coach only vs the computer. I noticed on kickoffs that every time a team kicked off the ball was not directly caught by the return man, but each time the ball hit the ground first and the Kick Returner had to chase the ball then pick it up. Is this a glitch or does this happen a lot. One point for me to make is that I will not be playing any games where I control the players. I have bad carpal tunnel in both my hands and am developing arthritis in my finger joints so using controllers or mashing the keyboard direction arrows is out of the question. That is what drew me to this game is everyone saying how real it was even in coach only mode. If that is the only thing I can find wrong than I will be pleased, but need to know if the Kick Catching is in every game or coach only or just my game. Thanks again and I will post more once I read the instructions and get a grasp on the whole game. Sean

This often happens. I think I have seen the kick returner catch the ball though. It would be nice to see them make cleam catchs more often. I hope you enjoy the game. It keeps getting better. What version are you simming with?

It happens if the playbook has an older kick return play.
 
I'll try to update that ASAP.

Two fast sim games?

Sim games are league games the computer simulates that the team owner doesn't play live.

I suspect Quick Play is what you meant.

I am using 2.2. After D/L the game I downloaded the 2.2 patch. this weekend I am going to delve into the game.

Is this the kickoff with American rules?
 
I have seen problems with punts, but most kick offs in coach only mode are caught.

I can't comment on American rules, but I can say that this does occur with the Canadian rules/playbook -- on a fresh 2.0/2.2 install.

I play American rules and everything is set to the highest settings.

This may have something to do with the actual play.   When I first started my league the return guys would always catch the punts and kickoffs.  About 4 seasons into it, now they hardly ever do.  I really could not understand why.  However, I do remember switching the kick plays.
