SILO Building LOS Problem?

Post by Mraah »

from my other post ... editted for possible bugs ...

Erik and all...

2. Question ... I noticed a destroyed Russian tank still had it's commander in the hatch. I didn't get a screen shot. It was dead, but didn't get close enough to see if he was dead or still alive. Next battle I'll post a screenier if I see it again.

3. Suggestion ... When clicking on an enemy unit I'd like to see a "reverse sighting unit", ie I want to see which of my units can see him. Maybe I'm doing it wrong but it would be nice to figure out which of my units can see him 'faster' than having to cycle thru my units until I see the enemy unit.

4. My first battle ... I was hit my Russian Artillery on Turn 1 ... hmmph, how'd the A/I get a first turn bonus???

SILO OBSTRUCTION LOS PROBLEM ??? .... My second battle has begun ... I was placing my recon vehicle behind the silo and the LOS says that I can still see the T-34's ???? I got a screen shot of that with the LOS tool ... see below.

Thanks again guys!!! Erik, Mobius, Stridor, and all the dev team and beta dudes!!

Rob

Out of curiosity, I see you had a red line there but were you actually able to fire and were you being shot at through the silo? Trying to figure if this is a map bug with that one silo or a targeting band bug with that one silo.

During SETUP only. I haven't started the first turn tho. Below is the full screen shot. I'll be emailing you the saved gave for you to have a go. Notice, the T-34's are probably going to whoop my butt!! This is 1941!! Yowser!

Oh, its Setup? Did you start behind the Silo?

I'm not sure LOS is checked more than once during setup, so that may be causing the issue you see. Continue and start the actual game play and see if that still holds true.

Hmmm, if I move the 222 behind that building to the upper right it blocks LOS to the T-34's, so it appears to be checking as I go. That was envently my final placement. Also, I think I saw this in PCOWS, Hell Gate battle. There's a SILO that I tried to hide behind with my 251 and it got hit thru the silo, I didn't post it them because I wasn't too sure that happened... but since I see this silo not blocking LOS I thought I'd tell ya.

Thanks.

Ok, thanks, sounds like there's a little map bug with that silo then. Appreciate the additional info.

By the way, sorry about those T-34s. If that was the first mission in your campaign, your chance of running into T-34s was about 5% if I recall correctly. Good luck! At least those should be the M1940s which are more vulnerable.

Hehe, no problem, that's my 2nd mission. I'm upset with the fact you guys gave me no replacements or support!!! You're making the HQ button very inviting by the second!! [:D].

I hope the 2 T-34's you see are the only ones ... this game is AWESOME ... did I mention that before?

By the way, the commander ALIVE in dead tank wasn't a T-34, I think it was a T28 or 60, I forget since that battle was my 1st and I'd like to forget about it since I lost 3 tanks!!... but anyway ... keep the bug, change the commander to a dead guy! Nice how a bug can be turned into a feature, yeah, that's it, you ment to do that... [;)]

You know, the GOOD part about it was the AUTO-targetting knew it was dead ... from my view, with the smoke coming out of the tank I thought the crew abandoned it (probably) and the commander didn't want to leave his tank!! I couldn't target it either ... another phew, then it would be a bad bug.

SUGGESTION :

1. Group Placement - I like the feature, but ... when using your lead unit for group placement it doesn't show the BLUE lines from the rest of the platoon ... it's bad when you move the lead unit too far and not knowing the rest won't move until you click and hear the beep and just see you lead move. I can only suggest showing the BLUE lines for the entire platoon so you know how far the group can move during setup.

Thanks again!!

Sounds like you're playing at the "Historical" settings. You'll notice that you will get some extra units in the scenarios as reinforcements to your "original core" but replacements will be as hard to come by as they were historically. You really have to conserve your forces on the historical level.

That HQ Helper is there if you need it and you can always play each scenario at the Easy level too.

Good suggestion, sounds a bit tricky to do though, but added to our wish list.

Erik,

Ok, here is TURN 1 ... it gets stranger as I go ...

There are three screenshots to look at ....

Screen #1 shows me being able to target the T-34 .

Screen #2 ...

I change my mind, instead .... to RUSH behind the building. Notice T-34 no longer visable.

Screen #3 ...

I change my mind again!! But wait, where did the T-34 go? Hmmm.

Granted, I'm still in the ORDERS PHASE and haven't begun the turn yet.

Move orders like Rush will change your ability to sight. It looks like the sighting factors were reduced for your Rush order, then either not switched back or perhaps the initial sighting of the T-34 was a bug. If you got my e-mail, please e-mail me the scenario file as well so that I can take a look at this. In the meantime, I would just play and see if it works fine or if you see anything else out of the ordinary.

I have not had any sighting problems in a while during normal play, so I'm hopeful it will work fine for you.

Ok, yeah, the RUSH explains that, I'll see if I can get it to reset. I thought the location of my move caused the T-34's to vanish showing I would be out-of-los if I moved there.

Anyway, the SILO isn't blocking LOS, we can agree on that ... I looked at the scenario editor , maybe it needs the RED TILE for IMPASSABLE (ie building tile) located where I have the red arrow pointing in screen shot below ???? I dunno.

Thank you,

Rob

Thanks, I got your save file and the scenario. I confirmed that indeed it is a small map bug specific to that one silo. For now, just pretend that silo isn't there. It will be more solid in the first post-release update. [;)]

Congrats Mraah you have found the first map bug. You are indeed correct it should be "red". This is an easy fix and I am sure will be addressed asap.

If you are really keen you can fix it yourself in any paint editor (or in scenedit)

Ok, hey .... no problem!! I rechecked myself and the other silos do indeed have RED tiles under them.

You know Stridor mentioned in another thread about map editing and such ... You know, if he told me what I can do to fix it I would love to make my own change ... heck, I like editting stuff, it wouldn't be a problem ... that is, of course if it's extremely difficult to do ... I like complexity [;)].

Mraah, you can load the map bitmap up into any paint editor and turn those brown pixels red, resave and there you go your silo will now block LOS. The map.bmp is the games way of knowing what is on the battlefield.

What you want to do is easy. Doing whole new maps is slightly harder [:D]
