ALL Left Menu

Post by harley9699 »

Ok, now I'm getting mad. Been messing with this thing for two days. [:@] On my main, game menu screen, it's like the whole left side does not work:

Random Battle Generator
Random Campaign Generator
HQ Helper
Scenario Editor
Campaign Editor

None of these 'buttons' start or do anything. The only thing I've seen is a notepad.exe running in the task manager, for every time I hit one of those buttons. Nothing launches, nothing starts. All of the nice RBG screenshots I've seen in the forums---well, I haven't seen a one of them. Nothing.
The Scene Editor will bring up a screen, but I don't need that right now for anything.
Yes, it's IE 7.0 the update. XP SP 2. All of the audio and video drivers are up to date.
So----------WHAT? What am I missing here?
Extremely frustrated but looking for info.
Thanks.

Hi Harley,

After your last e-mail. I forwarded the issue to Stridor for suggestions.

In the meantime, is there anything else that could be interfering with these on your system? Have you tried shutting down background programs, especially anti-virus/security programs? Have you tried re-setting your IE 7 browser security settings to default levels?

Regards,

Some suggestions from Stridor:

Things to check

. Ensure mshta.exe is installed. It should be or else the add/remove programs system in windows won't work (please check that works)
. Any Script blockers running? Some security/anti-virus software can be too aggressive in doing this and block our programs from running.
. Check that security for IE is set to default.
. The .hta file associations may be broken, open the Kharkov directory and try double clicking on the hta file directly (eg PzCRBg.hta for the Random Battle Generator)

Sounds like your file associations are broken if you see notepad opening.

Do this, right click on one of the htas (like PzCRBg.hta) and then choose the default program to run this file as Microsoft (r) HTML application host (otherwise known as mshta.exe)

THANKS! Way, way cool. It was the broken file associations. Had to do some digging around, but got it fixed. If it helps anyone else, believe my "C:\WINDOWS\ie7\mshta.exe"
was actually 'hidden'.
Man, I really, deeply appreciate it. [&o]
Oh yes, up the rest of the night now.............
