RBG issues

Hi. I'm enjoying the game so far. Unfortunately, I've come across two serious issues while using the RBG. Occasionally, during the first turn AI thinking phase, the red turn progress bar hangs up shortly after beginning and doesn't move any further (I gave up waiting after twenty minutes the second time it happened. I can still look around and get info on units, but nothing else works. I'm also getting occasional CTDs while choosing force allocation. At least twice I've had the RBG work without these problems, and I can't figure out what's different when they do occur. Considering I bought the game (both games) mainly for the RBC and RCG features, this is discouraging to say the least. I hope there's a fix soon.

Well, that does sound bad. I'm definitely not seeing that here though and yours is the first report so we'll have to try to figure out what's going on and if it's system specific before we can resolve it. I assure you if it were affecting everyone a fix would already be in the works.

Let me ask you first if you perchance installed the sound mod a user posted yesterday? That was found to cause crashes, so if you did, please uninstall that.

Second, could you post a DxDiag for us please (instructions pinned in this forum) and also post the latest "log" file from the /Logs sub-folder of your installation?

Third, there is a known issue with Volksgrenadier units causing a crash issue due to a typo in their data. I posted some fixed files for that in this forum on another thread. Are you generating your random battles in the 1944-1945 time range where these units might show up?

Let's start there. Hopefully we'll have this figured out soon!

Thanks, Erik,

I've attached the DxDiag. I haven't installed that sound mod. I did try the Volks file fix, but it doesn't seem to help (for the CTD during set up). The log will follow (sorry, it says I can only upload one item per post.) Thanks for the help.

Hm, I can't download the log file for some reason. Could you paste the contents into a post please?

Also, if you have a generated scenario that causes this issue: "I'm also getting occasional CTDs while choosing force allocation. " could you please email it to me at erikr@matrixgames.com? It should be listed as "random.xml" in your /Data/Scenarios sub-folder.

Ok, I see one problem - looks like we have an issue with a missing file in the last vehicle we added:

Found the problem, a typo I'd made in a folder name which would affect scenarios including the Panther G Late but not those without. Dang - fix will be up later tonight.

It turned out to be easier as a fix to change the data file rather than rename the folder. Unzip this file to your Data/ArmouredUnits sub-folder and the problem should be resolved. If you already renamed the directory, you don't need to do this.

Thanks for the help with the crash bug, Erik. It seems to be fixed. But I'm still getting the "AI Planning" hangup in about one of every three or four random battles. I started a bunch of randomly generated ones over the weekend to see if I could find some common denominator but I can't see a pattern. (I have noticed it only seems to happen when I've given my first orders -- it's never happened when I just start the first phase with no instructions to any units.) I haven't seen anyone else with this problem, so I hope it's just not my computer.

Whoops, I'm sorry I forgot to post to you about that one. My best advice on this would be that we can fix it if we can duplicate it. If you save the game after you enter your orders but before you end the phase, then if it hangs you will have a save to send us that will hopefully tell us what's happening. I didn't see any indication in the log file above as to what could be causing this, so it may require a save file to examine. I haven't seen any other reports on this, but you may be using a combination of units or orders that others haven't run into yet.

If you run into it again and didn't save, try to duplicate your orders as closely as you can, save and see if you can duplicate it or not. Hopefully this one won't be too hard to find if it's happening to you fairly often.
