Where are the text descriptions in various places in the (excellent) manual taken from? Eg:

"vomitng smoke into the chilly air" Manual p.20.

If it is a book I would like to obtain it - it looks a good read, and great background for the game. If it's not yet a book, somebody mmay have a potential bestseller on their hands! 'Cross of Iron' anybody?

Those vignettes were written by our original Winterstorm manual writer, Michael Eckenfels. Original work - what you read is all there is, but if you want to encourage him to write more you can always send him a compliment to mikee@matrixgames.com!
