BOOT CAMP - Warning "spoilers"

Post by Rik81 »

Look at the "hints" for the first "boot camp" mission it says (or implies?) we should MOUNT the Church when getting close. Is that possible? I get an "impassable" indication for trying to do anything at the Church.

Second point: I know "casting" smoke is good, but I only seem to be able to do it in a reaction phase. Was that just my error?

Yes, it should work fine, but you have to be within 15 meters before "mounting" a vehicle or a building.

You should be able to use smoke just fine as long as your base platoon order allows firing. Try the Engage base platoon order, that should allow all your squads to throw their CBE smoke grenades in either phase. Also, the Spot Indirect Fire order will let you call down your Mortar CBE smoke as well.

There are a few other threads here dealing with Boot Camp tactics and suggestions as well, have a look around and welcome to Panzer Command. [:)]

Thanks for the reply. Another general question (but maybe I just need to hunt around for those other Boot camp threads). Do you have to "win" the scenario, to advance to the next one in Boot Camp? Because if you do, I may never get out of Boot Camp[:D]

I think it has a rather more precise requirement, certainly in the case of the church? I had the same trouble until clicking on the entrance lobby block thingie (I'm sure that has a particular name in church architecture?!), whereupon it works every time. Anywhere else is just 'impassable'.

on the third boot camp it says I´ll get halftracks but there are no ht and no enemies either besides 2 trucks and on the 4th how will I stop the to tanks when I onlyhave 3 squads without any ammo against tanks??
Nr 2 I maneged with having only one squad at the flag but russians had 7 squads and I still won it. feels like big bugs in my bootcamp.
Where do I find the beta patch??
Otherwise it looks promising

Hi Runesson,

Yep, unfortunately you hit a bug caused by a late pre-release change that we missed. I forgot to update the Boot Camp campaign to take into account. It only affects the Boot Camp campaign. If you grab the v1.01 Beta Update, it will fix this. You don't need the update though to get the halftracks, there's an existing way in the game to work around this (read below).

The bug causes some units to show up in the purchase screen at zero effective strength. If you click on each unit in the purchase screen list at the start of each Boot Camp scenario, a red "Replace Losses" button will appear at the top right if they have losses to replace. Click that and your units will all be at full strength for each scenario.

The goal in that scenario is not so much to defeat the enemy, but to avoid the minefields by using the ford instead of the bridge. The trucks are the only enemies on Easy difficulty. Some enemy infantry also show up on Normal or Hard difficulty levels.
and on the 4th how will I stop the to tanks when I only have 3 squads without any ammo against tanks??

If you use the "Replace Losses" on the additional platoon in the purchase screen you'll have six squads.

The way to stop those tanks is to Close Assault them, which is what this scenario is supposed to teach. I start out all my squads in the houses on "Defend -> Hold Fire -> Close Assault" so they don't open fire too soon. As the tanks get close, they should eventually spot and engage you. Rush out of the houses on the next Orders phase and try to get within 25m of the side and rear of the tanks, then Target them. Infantry attack tanks within 25m with the Close Assault rules rather than their normal weaponry, so you can actually destroy them.
Nr 2 I maneged with having only one squad at the flag but russians had 7 squads and I still won it. feels like big bugs in my bootcamp.

If you caused the Russians enough losses with artillery and small arms fire while holding the flag you could have won based on VPs, that's how it should unfold in any case.
Where do I find the beta patch??

Have a look in our Members Club. Click the MEMBERS link in the top nav bar. Register your copy of Kharkov and you should see the beta patch listed under Registered Downloads or Private Downloads.
Otherwise it looks promising

Thanks, I really regret those last minute data issues affecting Boot Camp. It's really just one missing tag that's responsible for all those missing units. Now fixed, but I'd love to rewind time and get that fix into the 1.00 release. Again, this does not affect any other campaigns or scenarios, just Boot Camp.

Just unzip it to your installation folder, preserving the directories in the patch and everything should be fine. You can open zip files automatically in Windows XP or later or use a utility like www.winzip.com to do it for you.

You'll have to restart Boot Camp for the fixes to "take", unfortunately.

Err warning DUMB QUESTION. I did the first two boot camp scenarios, then did the third one. When finishing the 3rd I made the "mistake" of reviewing the battlefield. Now I can't find a way to move on to the 4th battle in the boot camp. How does one do that?

Figured it out -- just went to the Autosave file. Of course, I haven't beat the next battle yet, the one with 2 Soviet Tanks. This despite the fact that in one try I got a lucky hit and blew up one of the tanks!

Just hit the "End Phase/Turn" button and it should exit the review.

Sorry, don't see any such button. All I can do is go to MENU and hit EXIT to get out of Review.

It's the "play/pause" button.

Same one you use during the game to move to next phase.

For some reason it's not real obvious - I had same problem with my first game in BootCamp campaign.
