Wound badge bug?
Wound badge bug?
Not sure about this, and I'll try to recreate... but...
Had an infantry squad in a campaign get killed while riding a halftrack...
At the end of the scenario it gave the HALFTRACK the wound badge and such... even though the next battle the Infantry needed the replacements...
I'll keep an eye out for this situation and see if I can get game save....
Just a heads up..

RE: Wound badge bug?
Not sure, but the answer may be that killed units don't get "wound badges" b/c they're killed. Your replacement is a new unit. Units that take casualties, but are not killed, are awarded wound badges. Your HT got a badge perhaps b/c it was hit or damaged and wasn't destroyed. That's my understanding of what you described, anyway. [:)]
RE: Wound badge bug?
OK.... this is gettin weird...
I'm now about 20 battles into a random campaign, and the ONLY time ANYONE has gotten any medals is the one time a wound badge was awarded.
No CORE units have gone up levels (although others did). No wound badges even with Infantry taking damage (but not wiped out). No awards at all, even with Tank units having 20+ Kills.
Now, I did generate this campaign using the base Panzer 1 Div Long Campaign, but went in and replaced Units. Campaign generated correctly with the modified units... Unit names and types are correct.
Is there anyway to look in the savegame file to see if it is keeping track of additional kills as I go through campaigns?

What _exactly_ did you go in and replace?

RE: Wound badge bug?
I went into all the battles for the campaign, and modified the core units to give me a different force mix, and amounts of units... didn't change unit names at all...
HQ got changed to Panzer Grenadiers.
1/1-1 Aufkl got changed to Halftracks...
So my force mix is 2 Platoons of 5 Panzers.
2 Platoons of 4 Panzer Grenadiers.
2 Platoons of 4 Halftracks.
I started them all as elite, and that has tracked across the battles... I did loose one squad of a Grenadier unit and it when I replaced it, the platoon did degrade to Veteran, which has also tracked...
What I'm not seeing is any Promotions or awards for the core units which I modified. I have seen an Artillery unit get promoted... and I have not seen the wound badge given to my infantry when it has taken casulties.
Thanks

As long as you kept the unit names consistent throughout all the battle plans (even if you changed the names) for the campaign, this should have worked.

If they are already Elite they would not be gaining experience, but they should certainly be earning medals and abilities. I've seen these regularly awarded in my testing this week so I'm not sure what could be going on. The wound badge FYI is awarded if an infantry unit is "destroyed" in a battle and then reorganized/reconstituted afterwards during post-battle recovery. It's possible you're just having some very bad luck on the rolls, but I'll take another look and see - I may need your campaign files if I can't find anything wrong in our campaigns.
My guess is though that it's bad luck, since you are not seeing the awards happen post-battle. If there were an issue with the battle plans, you would see the awards given to you and then they would disappear in later battles.

RE: Wound badge bug?
OK thanks... that explains a bit of what I'm seeing... I'll go in and play with it a bit..... and see what happens...
Whats weird though is that when I did loose a squad of infantry, it was riding a halftrack... and the Halftrack got the wound badge...
I'll see if I can recreate that problem...

RE: Wound badge bug?
Hmmm... thinking on what I saw in that weird instance...
It did say that the Halftrack was recovered at the end of the battle... not the Infantry squad which had been destroyed...
It may be that the Halftrack had been damaged, although was still mobile and combat effective... and the Infantry squad was not recovered...
So... just bad "dice"... LOL....

RE: Wound badge bug?
I just complete the 12th battle of my current randomly generated campaign.
To date, I've won all 12 battles (running a test campaign with Late War equipment early war, so I can test this)... and the ONLY time I've received any awards is when a unit gets killed, and then gets recoversed.
As some of the "Badges" have a 30% award rate after 3 battles, the fact that NONE of my non wound badged units have ANY awards seems statisticly almost impossible.
It seems like its only checking for awards when a unit is recovered, even though some awards are (according to the manual) for both killing and surviving multiple fights...
Anyone else seeing this?

RE: Wound badge bug?
Update on symptoms.
I ran my 13th battle of this random campaign and saved it at the last turn, right before victory.
I then reran the end of the battle 15 times, looking at reward results.
During these 15 runs, the ONLY units to get awards were 2 Panzer Grenadier Squads who were KIA and Recovered (across the runs, they sometimes received wound badges and nothing else... sometimes awards up to Three awards...).
I had 14 Units with 2 or more kills (awards trigger Iron cross 2nd, 25% chance), 18 units with at least 1 kill (20% chance of war merit) ... and this was the 13th battle of the scenario (8 Pzgr units 30% chance of Infantry assault badge, and 20% chance of Combat bar).
To put it mildly, this seems like a bit more than "bad luck".
To Date, the ONLY units which have awards are units which were KIA and recoverd, and the ONLY awards they have is from the battle in which they were "wounded".
I have also had Units which were NOT my core units, gain Experience Levels WITHOUT getting any awards... is this even possible? Its not really clear in the manual, but one way of reading the manual is that Awards give you a percentage chance of being promoted... and thats the only way to be promoted? (had it happen to Stukas, Artillery, and an 88 unit).
Not sure whats going on... but IF you need awards to get promoted, it may be that the awards subroutine is running, but the awards are not being reported back to the game to be viewed or saved... thus the Experience bump... but no awards shown? But there is a second routine run for "Recovered" units (because some Awards are based on being recovered such as wound badges) which is running correctly....

RE: Wound badge bug?
I agree this seems very odd. I ran two battles of a campaign last night and saw two medals other than wound badges awarded, so I know it's working. As a test, can you try an unmodded campaign and see if it makes any difference?

No, you can gain experience without gaining medals or abilities. However, some medals give you an additional bonus check to gain an experience level if you can.

RE: Wound badge bug?
OK, went in and ran a totaly unmodified set battle.... Tuchband... Panzer Porn...
According to the manual, you have a 25% chance of getting an Iron Cross Second Class if you have 2 kills in a single battle.
First run? I had 5 unkilled Tanks with 2 kills... no Iron Crosses...
Second run? 4 unkilled Tanks with 2 kills... no iron crosses.... saved this one in the last turn, and ran it 6 times (meaning that at least 4 unkilled tanks had 2 or more kills) ... Not a single unrecovered tank got an Iron Cross.... thats a total of 28 chances at 25% which NEVER hit?
I did have recovered tanks getting awards... including the Iron Cross 2nd class...
PS: I'm on the build I downloaded... 1.0.0.19979...

Ok, well re-check this, really not sure what's going on but we'll go over it in detail to make sure everything's working fine.

RE: Wound badge bug?
May have been that the medals you saw last night were awarded to units which had recovered in that battle? I've been seeing that happen... just not to any unit which has not been a casulty and recovered...
RE: Wound badge bug?
Is anyone else seeing this? or is it working correctly for others?
I'd really like to restart a campaign with Medals getting awarded correctly... so I'd really like to figure out if its just me so I can figure out a fix.

The only campaign I've completed was BootCamp. In boot capm, I recived Wound badge, but no medals. I've played a couple of Set Battles, in one of them I had one unit kill 3 soviet tanks but no medal. Didn't really think to much about it since it was a set battle.
I'm just starting the Mcensk campaign.

Ok, I set up a Tucheband test and one Panther that was not at all damaged or destroyed earned an Iron Cross 2nd Class. So that's working as far as it being possible. However, I would have expected to see a bit more in the way of awards, so we are going to step through this tomorrow and see if something went awry in the late builds or if I just need a larger statistical sample.

RE: Wound badge bug?
I'm on the 3rd German Kharkov campaign scn and I have had several units with huge numbers of kills (7 or 8) and they have never been recognized for medals. Usually it's an odd unit that really didn't do anything that got them. Like my 50mm mortar team, or a HT transport.
I don't care all that much but it does lead me to believe that high kill totals have little if anything to do with the honors. FWIW.
