Slowdown after awhile
I've had my game become more sluggish after playing a scenario for awhile. I started noticing that when I clicked to select a unit, bring up the orders menu, and basically anything utilizing the mouse that sometime after turn 16-18 (or so) that there'd be a loading delay & it'd read from my hard drive like it was using virtual memory.
I saved, exited scenario, and reloaded. Everything was back to smooth as silk again. I'm not sure if this is a memory leak issue. I checked the memory usage of PCK in the task manager and it was up to ~490MB before reloading and ~390MB after reloading (and getting my performance back).
My machine's not old: AMD X2 6000, 4GB RAM, 8800GTS. This happened on Vista Ultimate but I have a dual boot setup & will give it a shot on my WinXP partition to see if there's any difference.

I haven't seen this but I mostly play on XP. When we did our Vista testing we saw the same performance as on XP though. I can't imagine why it would be swapping to disk with 4GB of available physical memory. Did you have a lot of other stuff running at the same time?

Nope, I keep my PC clean when gaming. No extra programs, AV turned off, Aero disabled and Admin rights for each shortcut, UAC disabled etc.
That wasn't the first gaming session that's happened. I'm stumped. Like I said, I'll give it a go w/ the same machine on XP & see what happens later on.

Agree this morning it started quick as usual [:)] but after a while when a phase was over and you press the continue button it took almost 30 s [>:]
Just to reboot though

Hm - I've only seen that type of delay when reinforcements are arriving at the start of a phase and it has to load in the new models and textures. Was it slowing down in all phases for you after a while? Also, was this with 1.00 or 1.01c?

I'm also running Vista Ultimate 32 with 4Gb of physical memory and haven't noticed this. The only real difference between me and the original poster is the CPU...I'm running an Intel quad QX6700.

Are all of those seeing the delay running 1.01c (in which case it may be a beta bug)?

Hi All,
I have that delay problem as well. I am using the first beta patch. I will download the new patch and see if it still does it.

Ok - one comment. There has always been a delay when reinforcements arrive, but it's been more like 3 to 5 seconds. The delays being reported of 30 seconds for this are not typical, so if you see that try going back to 1.00 and see if it still does the same. It could be that we introduced a but in the beta patches.

RE: Slowdown after awhile
Ok, I tried it out on my WinXP partition with 1.01c beta patch and I still get the slowdown.
I also noticed that since I have Verbose Messages enabled, I sometimes get tons of clickable message links in the message window. There was one specific turn that all kinds of mayhem happened on, and it seemed like after all those messages got pounded in there is when the sluggishness started happening afterwards.
I'll turn Verbose off next I'm playing. Hopefully that's all it is.

RE: Slowdown after awhile
For what it's worth, I am not running the beta and have experienced no slowdowns on my Vista machine. The game got stuck one time between the turn calc and replay (could scroll the map but no buttons responded), but other than that has been rock solid.

RE: Slowdown after awhile
Ok, we found and confirmed and fixed a new slowdown bug that was introduced in the beta versions when we fixed the order refresh issue. I'll have a new v1.01d beta up later today that fixes this and we hope to have v1.01 official out by the end of the week.
