Future RHS Submarine User Notice

Post by el cid again »

This isn't in the manual (yet)

nor is it in use (yet)

BUT

The next RHS update - mainly submarine oriented - will feature AXIS submarines appearing in a strange form - for one day:

Subs appear in a form intended to get building cost better represented and with ZERO speed - in a port with a shipyard - which if undamaged and in supply will permit them to upgrade - in one day EXCEPT RTN which won't upgrade until 1 January 1942 (I think - still tweeking)

IF you see a sub with zero speed - leave it alone - and it should self correct - usually in a day - although then it will have some system damage - that is OK by me - a new boat needs a bit of time to work up.

These new submarine ratings have two virtues:

1) They are more survivable

2) They are RELATIVELY better rated - we are using design depth - which was used in combat rather than operating depth - and since that was not the same multiple of operating depth for all nations - it is a more consistent standard - also a more realistic standard - so the relative ability of a class to take damage is more correct (compared to other submarine classes).

Except when better data was found, in general, US, Japanese and French subs get 50 per cent more durability, British subs get 75 per cent more, and German subs get 200 per cent more (they are tripled - operating depth is 250 feet, design depth is 500 feet but we are using 750 feet for historical analysis reasons] The Dutch get either 50 or 75 per cent more - in theory - but more than 100 per cent more - in fact - because we had data wrong - and because they used both their own and British subs. I was able to get Ductch data to get this right. In game terms most Dutch subs will be more than twice as durable than they were - although that is partly because we had wrong data before.

Addition: some surface ships (which Japan should not pay for) will use the two class production system.

Revision: Instead of seeing a speed of 0 knots, you will see a speed of 1 knot - because ships with 0 speed won't show up on the Axis side.
Seems not to apply to the Allies - see Dewey Dry Dock.

Looks like this is a day or two out still - lots of data entry - and I test before releasing. Which is how I learned speed 0 does not work.
