How to mod?

Post by JudgeDredd »

For those people modding out there, what tools do you use?

For example, to create a new skin, what do you use to open and edit the files?

Hi JD,

There are some tools you can get for free and they are quite good. For Skinning I use Paint Net. It is a good program and free. Its great advantage is that it will open dds files. That's the file format the game uses. When you save it saves in that format and you avoid any issues with the alpha channels. They have online tutorials that should aquaint you with paint basics. Google Paint Net and Download for free.

DDS Convertor 2 will convert dds files into other files. I don't use it very much any more because even with the proper settings it does not appear to preserve alpha channels very well. But it is a very good viewer and that is what I use it for. Google DDS convertor 2 and download for free.

My advice for the moment is to download Paint Net , play with it, and go through some tutorials just to become used to the settings. A full tutorial on skinning may be something I will do in the future if time should allow.

If you have any questions ask away.

regards John

Thx John.

Much appreciated.

I'm not sure I'll get into it...depends on how much work is involved (I can't be taken away from my gaming for too long!), but I'd like to give it a look
