World at War v33c2 released

Post by von altair »

Fixed AI bug and couple other important things. Have Fun!

http://www.advancedtactics.org/scenario.php?nr=45
- I decided to include graphics too, since it seems that v33c is not correctly zipped.

Patch WaW v33c2 - Von Altair
- If either Allied or Axis declared a war on Vichy France and moves units in there, they get destroyed at first turn. Fixed This. (thank you JAMiAM for spotting this)
- Trains didin't care about a broken bridge. They can't pass rivers with a broken bridges anymore.

Patch WaW v33c1 - Von Altair
- The game crashed if AI regime selected. Fixed that (thank you Vic for tip).
- Naval shore bombardement winter combatmod was still unfixed. Fixed that.
- SU / China Conscripts recon value 1-->0. Conscripts were cheaper scouts as trained infantry. Didin't make sense. They are just untrained militia with defense ability.
- SU / China Conscripts entrench power 40-->20.
- Long Range Artillery didin't use manpower at all, now they do.
- Fixed AI ability to use some units correctly. Earlier AI didin't know how to use them at all.
- Increased German Westwall unit power a bit, to prevent France overun them too easily.
- Japan landforces got slight reinforcements.
- Added some shiphull defense (there was none), so opponent can't destroy them by just throwing a rock.
- Artillery & Long Range Artillery got some defense increase against surface fleet. This was needed to balance a bit overbalanced bombardement ability. Artillery can now be used better, to defend a coastal cities.

ps. I started this thread as v33d, but decided to change my patch to v33cX, to make difference between me and Tom Webers "official" patchline.

I was wondering if you were planning a fix...
In another thread you had mentioned some bugs you found in WAW v33

Do you feel the WAW v33 is ready?
I have been holding out before I even consider approving any of the WAW's since there is another version coming out every few days.

Hi Ironcrom!

I can't say that WAWv33c1 is "ready". Scenarios like these never come "ready". There is always something to do better. However, this version is A LOT better than earlier approved version. This version doesn't have any bugs that I know off and AI is working alot better than earlier versions. If something has to be approved, this is a good version to declare as "working and prefered one". I am sure, there will be many other upgrades to this when time comes, but if you need to give out next approved file, this might be it.

Thanx for the response.
Mostly I'm concerned with bugs but with every major change to the scenario there seems to be more bugs that follow.

I will sit on this version for a few days in case more changes are coming soon.
WAW is a very big and complex scenario and it is nearly impossible for one person to find all the bugs. You, Barthheart, and all the others have been an enormous help. Thankyou.

It's now confirmed that this version also have bugged ship construction events.

UPDATE

ok it finally built a ship in rome but what i did was transfer a CA hull to my HQ just to see what would happen and after about 10 turns it built it from the HQ not the shipyard.

i dont know if this helps or not.
but after about 40 turns of playing this scenario thats the first time it built a ship in rome.

Rome isn't a port... really. So is this a bug? I know you get the option, but really... wasn't La Spezia the port where most Italian warships were constructed?

BTW... has anybody taken away the German Blitzkrieg card against the Russians if they don't use it in 1941? If you wait to 1942, the Germans can build a massive armored army and roll over the Soviets, even though by then they wouldn't have been surprised.

I'm working on a revised version of WaW, hope to be out very soon.
Ship hulls were fixed in that they could be build when using v20b, but they still weren't built correctly.  I've figured out how to fix that.
New version will also have almost no benefit to Germany if wait until 1942 to invade, standard benefit if in 1941, and bigger benefit if prior to 1941.
Lots of other changes.
Problem with putting LaSpezia in the game is that for it to be able to build naval units, it would have to be able to be a producing city, not just a port, which is easy enough to do, but would give more production to Italy than it really warrants, IMHO.  By having Rome on the Med, though inaccurate geographically, it allows overall game production to be more balanced, and Italy can produce navy quicker if it so deems.
Revised version will have more accurate North Africa setup also, altered naval values to enhance role of carriers and subs, and several other changes.
Coming to theatres near you soon [;)]

Kewl!

Yep, I agree... Rome really is the only option for the game.

North Africa is a forgotten front as it is, so definately could use some work. Looking forward to that.

The Brits also have a tendency of landing forces at the same spot (41,16) in France move after move, after the Germans conquer France. If that could be randomized a bit better it would make keeping France secure much more interesting. Cherbourg (36,18) and La Havre (38,19) would be good places.

In one of my games British naval and naval air forces moved into a port city... I believe it was Amsterdam. I destroyed the small ground force, then moved into the city and the Brits lost at least 9 capital ships including a carrier and airwing. Bad mistake. They shouldn't do that.

Very kewl scenario though, had lots of fun with it.

Cheers,
