Fatal Error 818 <fixed>

Hi guys,

I just updated from version 1.50 to 1.806 and now when I attempt to play the game, I get this "Fatal Error:818" during the load screen. Any idea what I did wrong?

I think I found out why...I need to do the comprehensive 1.804 patch first.&nbsp; will I be okay if I install 1.804 and then reinstall 1.806...or do I need to do a fresh installation of WitP?&nbsp;

P.S.&nbsp; Wow 78megs...that's quite a patch.

Thanks for the info. I ran into the same problem. Kinda sucked though, I lost 4 months of my campaign. Well I guess it gives me an excuse to try a PBEM.

[&:] You shouldn't have lost your campaign to an upgrade... unless your hard drive crashed or something and this was a reinstall.

Alright guys... brad here at a friend's house and we're trying to install his new copy of WITP. I can install the game from the disc fine (v1.50), but once I install the patches (1.804 comprehensive and 1.806) we get the Fatal Error 818.

Do you think that I have a corrupted copy of the patch (I made a disc with the two patches for him)? We're on dialup here at his house (mine too!), but I can try to make a new copy once I get home...

Try this, uninstall all. then just install the 1.5 version and make sure it works. then try installing the 1.804 comprehensive patch and make sure it works. then install the 1.806 patch. Try to see what part works and what doesn't.

Thanks, guys - I was thinking along the same lines, but didn't follow through tonight.

We've got him up and running on the 1.5 version, but didn't try only loading the 1.804 patch tonight. I wanted to go through the tutorial tonight with him while I was there and we were running out of time. Bill is catching on quickly, but WITP has so much going on... It helps that he is retired navy, and so I didn't have to teach him what the different ships were...

Again*, make sure you load the COMPREHENSIVE PATCH for 1.804 - it is a pretty big file (some like 20 megs in zipped format).

It would be easy to accidentally download the incremental patch, so double check.

Rob, it most certainly is the 1.804 comprehensive patch.

However, I just noticed that my 1.806 is the revamped version - should that be used with the 1.804 comprehensive?

My own installation was done with the regular 1.804, as I had already used all the incremental patches as they came along. I had also dl'd (at work, not on my home dialup!) the comprehensive patch so that future installations would go more quickly. Could it be that it's the wrong version of 1.806 (as in the revamped wasn't expected to work with the 1.804 comprehensive)?
