Boonierat's Vietnam Combat Operations

Hi all,

I usually consider myself a WW2 gamer, but I've been exploring Vietnam in TOAW III, and I'm very impressed with the scenarios I'm finding.

Curt Chambers' "Campaign for South Vietnam 65-75" is just great. It's one of those scenarios that really feels like it could have been released as a full game. The scale and events feel perfect for playing the whole war.

Boonierat's "Vietnam Combat Operations" are especially impressive for the detail and historical research that obviously went into them, and now I have a question: how do most of you play these scenarios? I see that it's possible to follow all of the assigned "missions" and get points, but do most players also give themselves a free hand for other operations? How do you other players approach these rich scenarios?

So um....Paul: Curt Chambers is on the verge of releasing ( I guess ) a new version of CSV ( 4.0 ) and he and I are playtesting it even as we speak. In fact I have two games of CSV going on right now: (1) I'm the NVA against Curt Chambers and (2) I'm the Allies against Ron Rigelhof and there is an AAR ongoing for each game that you can peruse if you'd like.

How do we usually play CSV? I don't presume to speak for the others but I'd rather play PBEM games than against the PO. That way it's much much more realistic. I'm retired so all I do all day is play TOAW and try to keep up with updating the AAR's. It's a full life. I tried CSV against the NVA PO and decided that it was useless to try to get any intelligence by watching the NVA go through it's turns....the screens flash so quickly on my machine that I can catch glimpses only and forget taking notes. So I'd much rather play PBEM. Plus you can make some friends that way. It's all good.

Updated Volumes 1-6 will be included in the next patch (if it's ever released of course [:'(])
Volume 7 (Tet Offensive) is almost ready too and I'm finishing work Volume 8 right now.
