Leaders in AE

Post by Chris21wen »

How are the leaders being used, in the same way and will there be a better description of there abilities and what they are suitable for?
Will it be possible to filter them when changing leader?

Just being able to know what they were better at would be such an advantage. I spend so much time just figuring out what different lead attributes were. I would rather be playing than looking at leaders.

I'm with you all on this.

I would rather leaders be displayed in a table format with all the attributes so you can look for top factors in the different categories (and find the elusive invasion fleet commander or carrier fleet commander).

On top of all this, though, I would like to see limitations as to who (i.e. what rank) can command certain levels of unit groupings (multiple ship TFs, LCU divisions, regiments, squadrons, bomber groups, etc. etc.), or pay the cost of promoting the leader to the next rank with PPs on top of the PP cost to change the commander. Promotion should also decrease the factor levels (they have to gain these back through experience in the new post).
So much WitP and so little time to play.... :-(

Are the leaders being completely redone? Officers like Percival and Admiral Philips which went down fast in real life have awful leader points in WITP, but I'm not that sure if they were that bad in real life. They were just on the wrong command at the wrong time. The same may hold for Kimmel. He never got to prove himself in the war. I would like to see these guys to do a bit better in AE or at least do better than a bunch of made up guys (if there are any?)...

The entire leader database has been thoroughly scrubbed, especially British and Commonwealth. But there's still no promotion.

This is what the TF Leader Selection screen looks like in AE. The others look broadly similar, and all the columns can be selected for sorting:

It doesn't make any sense, Admiral. Were we better than the Japanese or just luckier?

Look good but where's the figures for ADM Noyes himself? If they don't appear on the screen then you have no way to compare stats. The eveluation on its own is usually not sufficient.

His stats are will be on the TF info screen, that is fine by me.
Just click on his name and bingo.

Yes I've seen that but it would be so much easier if they were on the screen as will, say the bottom were it says evaluation of Noyes. L.

Frankly, I think that leaders' capabilities should be hidden from the players entirely. And the names should be randomized (as far as abilities are concerned) every time you start a game. A lot of so called experts in this and that have failed miserably when put to the test. Part of the game should be finding the good ones.

The problem with that is that in reality you have a lot of staff working at evaluating people: Reports by superiors, reports by subordinates, ... all watching and judging an officer. In WitP leader effects are hidden behind random numbers. So you never will know whether the attack failed because of (one of) the involved leader, the weather, better preparation of the enemy, ... .
So unless the game get a really major rewrite there is no way you can usefully evaluate leaders yourself.

And, BTW, due to the random numbers involved, also in WitP great leaders can fail.

I must agree with Chris - would be nice to have ADM Noyes' stats on the screen too to compare with the others...

I don't claim to know much about coding, so I was wondering why promotion is not being included. I think it would add a bit of realism to to a game that covers such as hugh lenght of time. I would like to see my commander getting a promotion from time to time.

Between you and me (and the rest of the forum[:D]), so would I, but that feature would have required a from-the-ground-up code block, and I think we wanted to spend our time on other things.

Would it be possible to add a little code allowing players to manually promote a certain number of leaders every year? It might be easier to do that than create an automatic promotion system.
