Great !  I see many improvements (DL shown, detailed patrol/CAP management, nice map, more data available about squadrons, units sortable by nationality).  I haven't had the time to deeply browse the AE's sub-forum, but it really seems a great addition, one I'll gladly pay.*
It's truly a marvel to see a publisher make an expansion for a 5-year old game, rather than making a fully new game under the same name with a toned down difficulty/realism just to try selling more games to young careless teenagers without listening to the advices of veteran players.

Kudos to developpers, publishers, beta-testers and all ![:)]

* And now that I've nearly pre-ordered : when could we hope to see the expansion released ?  or, lacking any date, how long will we have to wait, at least (that is, how long should we really not expect it to be released ?) ?

I used to play many games of another publisher, strategy games, on a "false" real-time, not to name those swedes.  Their games were very thorough - many abstractions, but it really was grand strategy (and management).  However, the last two years they've started "simplifiing" their games, making them "more fun", to attract players "outside of their niche".  Despite much talk about the veteran players.  This publisher really was a "niche publisher", and until that point I had high regards for them.  But right now, I find more merits on Risk than in their newer approaches...

So, I'm very glad to see there still is a publisher who cares for the "brain-intensive, detail-focused and hard-thinking former teenagers" in which I recognize myself.  If young kids played a bit more on WitP and other similar "difficult" games, they'd have better results at school in math, history, physics, etc.

And would learn to properly butcher their neighbours with 400 4E bombers rather than dad's shotgun...[8|]

Those are great!

I had one minor question. One shot shows a ship in port at Pearl Harbor, and the airfield there is marked 10(7) in a red font, I think. Does that mean the airfield is holding too many aircraft or something?

I didn't think that you could overload a size 10 airfield. I thought that those were unlimited in size.

David Heath has already said that Matrix doesn't do pre-orders. You'll have to wait. As for collector's editions, they don't do that either, as far as I know.

I don't actually know, but my guess is that the airfield is damaged.
