Simultaneous PBEM Battles

Post by DCWhitworth »

I can't recall seeing anything, but is it now possible to fight more than one battle at the same time in PBEM games ?

By this I mean where battle files are exchanged.

I know at one point it wasn't possible but that Marshall was looking into it. Did this get sorted ?

As far as I know it's still one battle at a time.

No, you cannot do this.
We're intentionally keeping you from doing this because the original game manadated that each battle be fought in the attacker's order preference. Fighting battles simultaneously could take away any intentional order selection advantage that the attacker may have. Technically, this could be done but with a lot of code changing.

Marshall Ellis,

This makes little sense. Giving the attacker the ability to perform battles simultanously (or not) at his preference certainly would not take away any advantage from the attacker as long as its done as a choice rather than mandatorily. If anything it would give the attacker an additional advantage.

That could be true??? There could be several advantages for a defender as well??? It is a MAJOR code change!

Not worth the change in my opinion. The situation where two battle files are exchanged in the same player turn are pretty rare. I'm playing in three PBEM games and I haven't encountered such a situation yet.

I don't think it's worth time to code in a change.

However, while this IS a significant change to the attacker's ability to use order as a tactical or strategic option, it pales in comparison to the same effect being used during diplomacy. However, the diplomacy phase has been done all at once for "speed" purposes.

If it's good enough for diplomacy, it's certainly good enough for combat order.

But, probably not worth the time investment in the code to be worthwhile.
At LAST! The greatest campaign board game of all time is finally available for the PC. Can my old heart stand the strain?
