New to this game

Gary Grigsby’s World at War is back with a whole new set of features. World at War: A World Divided still gives complete control over the production, research and military strategy for your side, but in this new updated version you’ll also be able to bring spies into the mix as well as neutral country diplomacy, variable political events and much more. Perhaps the largest item is the ability to play a special Soviet vs. Allies scenario that occurs after the end of World War II.

New to this game

Post by notsop »

Hi Guys, I just bought this game and thought I would try it out. Judging by the amount of forum traffic, it doesn't seem to be one of the more popular games. Anyways, I love WW2 type games but this is my first Strategic WW2 game I've played, unless you count the 3 days I muddled around in Hearts of Iron 2. Any Suggestions or hints for a newbie Strategy guy? Thanks!

I don't know what to say about popularity ... there has been a core group of people dedicated to this game for quite a while. But eventually, you do run out of things to say on the forum, even if you are still playing the game actively. And there is even the possibility that dedicated players will need to take a little break from the action every now and then.

I hope that the game remains popular and new blood comes in. It really is a great game (BTW - I'm a dedicated volunteer speaking, not a 2by3 or Matrix person).

Welcome to the World Divided!

Hints to come up to speed ...

1) start by playing against the AI with simple supply. You may want to start as WA, just so that you don't have to be too proactive (Germany takes the lead early on), then try Germany.

2) play against the AI with advanced supply on. Supply is what makes the game shine ... pretty simple rules with large consequences.

3) eventually, you will want to play a human. Play against the AI gets a bit boring once you've mastered the game, but it is almost a prerequisite to start against the AI before you play an experienced human. You need to have the mechanics down and some understanding of the dynamics before you can do much against an experienced human.

I've learned to play with Japan and with the hardest difficulty rules. The game is just great and the only thing u really need, is to play PBEM.

You can see in the PBEM forums the real activity [:)]
