Scrolling slower in Vista than XP
Seen this problem in both W@W and now WBTS. Even bringing scroll speed up to 1.0 in Vista, it's still slower than XP at 4.0.
As an FYI, the Vista machine is much faster (Core 2 Duo running at 2.45GHz/GeForce 8800GT) than the XP (iMac 20", 2GHz Core 2 Duo, Radeon 2400).

RE: Scrolling slower in Vista than XP
Hm, your sound drivers appear quite old indeed (Nov. 2006) for Vista, you should certainly look for an updated set there but I can't see how that would affect scrolling speed.
We have a Vista test system with the same video card and no scrolling speed difference between XP and Vista,so I'm not sure what could be causing the problem at this moment. Have you tried shutting down all background applications one by one to see if any of those could be interfering? How about checking graphics driver settings and if you've changed any of the global ones, see if setting them back to defaults or application-controlled makes a difference?
Regards,
- Erik

RE: Scrolling slower in Vista than XP
Hi all,
I've got the same problem. Really s.l.o.w. scrolling. From Richmond to Kansas City it takes 18 seconds with Vista and 6 or 7 seconds with XP (laptop which has lower specs).
Tried it with sound drivers from 2006 and with the latest driver (june 2008). Tried a different resolution and let application decide etc etc but no change.
Since I got my Vista DXDIAG file uploaded....wanted report a CTD i got when the AI finished a turn ("WBTS has stopped working"). The program doesn't seem to create logs/dumps when it crashes??

Just for process of elmination, can you try uninstalling, deleting the installation directory entirely, setting your regional settings to US, reinstalling and setting the scroll speed back to 1.0 to see if that makes any difference

Hi,
Executed all of the above twice (because regional settings kept autochanging back to NL). However the difference in scroll speed between a XP or Vista system was still there.

Thanks for trying, Grouchy. We're going to try to find a way to duplicate this in Vista over the weekend. I'll let you know as soon as we figure out what's going on.

Same problem here. Vista with SP1.
RE: Scrolling slower in Vista than XP
OK I've updated my audio driver. The most recent version offered from Asus is not much newer, but we'll see how it goes. I will consider the driver from the Realtek site if you think it'll help . . .

RE: Scrolling slower in Vista than XP
Well, I tried a lot of different settings for graphics on our Vista SP1 system and in all cases, scrolling in the game behaved just fine. Unfortunately, that doesn't help me figure out what's causing this problem for you. I'll do more testing tomorrow.
Can you please also try shutting down _all_ non-system background programs to see if it's possible that any software you're running could somehow be interfering?
Also, if you haven't already tried, does windowed mode vs. full screen make any difference? Does low vs. high graphic quality make any difference?

Hi,
Used EnditAll to kill/stop all the programs that allowed it, full screen vs window mode & high/low graphic detail: no change.
Did i mention i love the radar map [:D] After one day with that future & with scrollspeed at 1.0, you don't know any better.

Ok, thanks for trying that.
Yes, with slow scrolling, the radar map is definitely your friend!

RE: Scrolling slower in Vista than XP
I can't figure it out. There are a couple apps that I've noticed seem to interfere with graphical performance on the desktop, including quickbooks (has a docklet and a some other daemon) and Object Dock. I'll try disabling them, restarting and seeing what happens.

Doubt that is it. I have a Creative X-Fi (Xtreme Gamer) card and get the same thing. Very latest driver and no dice. I do have an Asus mobo though: P5E-VM.
Tried disabling just about everything I could think of but no improvement. [:(]

RE: Scrolling slower in Vista than XP
Ok, although it's working fine on our Vista system and those of our Vista testers in native Vista mode, we're going to ask you to put the "Quick Start" shortcut direct to the WBTS executable on your desktop, then right click on it to set properties. Try the various Compatibility settings - I'm not at a Vista system right now, but try XP compatibility and also try the various other options to see if any of those help.

Argh. Ok, thanks. This may take a little longer than I would have hoped as the next step is to get the developers to try to figure out what could be going on. The fact that this doesn't happen on any of our Vista systems isn't helping us, so I'd welcome any continued tinkering on your part.

It's currently about 110 degrees, but we have a pool and mimosas.
