Managing Supply for Rebs

Post by lparkh »

I could use a few words of wisdom on this front. I am showing up on new turns with no supply for my rebs! How can i estimate how much supply I need to produce each turn to be in good shape for the turn upcoming? I try to leave some factories producing supplies but I don't seem to be producing enough. Any way to estimate needs? Is it worse in winter?
Thanks,
Lin

Put your mouse over the on map supply total on the military forces screen and you'll get a basic supply need estimate. It doesn't account for what you'll need to supply new militia units, and usually you'll save some supply via foraging resources, but it gives you a sense. Also, the e key report lists how many supplies your troops used each turn to supply themselves (again, not accounting for building forts or creating militia or coverting mounted units).

hmmm... I must  be really messing up... on the military units screen I see 0/0. First being under the map icon and the second under factory icon. THe first I thought meant simply what is on map... how does that tell me what I need? As opposed to how badly I have screwed up by not having any on map now :-(  Using "e" I can see my guys used 130 supply... but maybe they needed more since I ended up with 0?  So still hazy on how to tell what I need.. should tell every single unit/army to forage every single turn? efficient but seems burdensome.
  Thanks for replying so quickly
Also how do I find damaged units please? I have some and I go the repair screen and don't see any listed.. is that because I have no supply or they aren't at a factory?
Finally if I may ask one more question.. how do I find a particular unit.. say a ship? I can find specific leaders from leader screen.. anyway to find specific units?

No need to tell units to forage, they do it automatically if they can. Only needed for units that are out of supply at the start of their turn if they can move to an area that has some available resources. To see supply needs, press F3 and then move your mouse over the number of supplies on the map for your side. If you were just starting the 1861 scenario and went to the screen as Union, it would be the 1591 number. It says 100 supplies in depots (unavailable) and 135 needed to supply the troops. If you are seeing a 0 next to the supply wagon icon, you are on the damaged/destroyed page, and need to press the tab at the top to go to the on map/in production page. Hope that helps.

Damaged unit go to factories (not the repair screen, the production screen). You will see them when you first go to that screen in one of the production boxes.

You can's see a particular unit, however you can light up areas with specific unit types by using some of the hotkeys. So if you want to see where there are mounted units, you press Shift-v and all areas with mounted units will light up.
