Where is South Carolina?

Post by elmo3 »

Page 50 of the manual says South Carolina is in the Western Theater. Page 79 says SC is in the Eastern Theater. Which is correct? Thanks.

Just ran a test activate leaders in SC. Western leaders appear. So it must be considered west.

Pyle - your a Texan.  Does putting South Carolina in the Western Theater make a bit of sense?

I know, I thought SC was Eastern at one time, so this came news to me. Question for Joel I guess...Might be why the rules have 2 explanations...

Yes, there was some confusion on this. I don't remember seeing it show up in two places in the manual. The bottom line is that the game sees SC as part of the western area, as only North Carolina and Virginia are considered "Eastern". As far as I remember though, the only impact this has is which leaders get activated in a given area. So if you want an "Eastern" leader, be sure to go to Virginia or North Carolina before activating a leader.

This may be a mere "flavor" issue. SC is an Atlantic coast state and I'd have expected Gen. Longstreet to at least start as an eastern general. Has SC being conted as a western state caused Reb players any problems getting ANV properly officered?

I'm confused. By no stretch of the imagination should SC be anything other than Eastern Theater. Hope that's the case.

To be clear, this does not affect "Theater Command". If you have a Theater Commander in the east within range of SC, he still commands SC. It's considered "Western" only for leader activation (i.e. getting them from the leader "pool" onto the map) and nothing else. I'd guess this is because such a large percentage of officers came from Virginia or NC that to expand the eastern Leader Pool further would have left a relatively small percentage for Western activation.

Erik is correct it doesn't affect play balance at all. Where you place your TC's dictate East from West. Sometimes you may have 3 AC's on one front and 1 one the other as long as there 6 regions away from a TC, and you create where the theater boundries are. If you move the East TC to NC then it streaches into SC. If you move your West TC to GA then it goes into SC. Theres alot of flexability in this game...
