LCU Replacement Question

Post by jsglenn4 »

I've owned the game for a couple of years now and have been lurking in the forums as well (a great place to hang out and read). I've had a couple of goes as smaller scenerios to get the mechanics down (mostly) and now am trying Scen 158 as Allies vs AI (CHS + NikMod). I am only up to 30-Dec-41, but I've neglected to turn replacements "on" for anything anywhere. I've tried to locate what I could in the Must Read threads. I know you need adequate supply (20K+?) at the base and that local HQ's help greatly.

I've begun moving British and Indian units to the Indian border and into Northern Burma and am trying to fortify a string of islands to keep the US-Oz/NZ supply line open. My questions is whether or not I've messed things too badly or is it early enough to salvage things. It's going to be a little while longer before some of these places have adequate supply and some of those forces (especially Base Forces) start pretty lean. How does the experienced player balance this in the early game where you need to get people in place to start trying to slow the Japanese advance a bit.

I think you'll be fine.

Remember, in Dec '41 the real-life allies had no idea what they were doing, or what they were in for, either. [:)]

The replacements that have been generated are not lost, just delayed -- so you have not committed any cardinal sin.

With regard to your last question: study the map and pick the places you intend to defend. Without that thought process completed, you'll be moving stuff around without purpose. Once you know what you intend to fight for -- inbound replacements have a destination, and you'll find yourself scrambling for transports to get them there.

I am not familar with the Nik mod however, if this is similar to CHS then I can offer the following suggestions.

1) Use a base in the Indian Ocean to collect supplies from Aden and then distribute to where it is needed. You will have to move your AK's back to Aden and that supply point to reach a proper balance. You can pick any number of bases such as Madras, Colombo etc. I also support Australia from here to either Broome or Perth and then distribute from there as needed. This is slow but more than once has come in handy in Feb.

2) If you still hold PH then I support NZ and AU from there. And of course feed into PH from the West Coast. Since there isnt a safe direct route from PH to AU one has to keep an eye on the transports and change destination or base now and then. This, I am told, will be fixed in AE with waypoints. Which ports you use in between depends on what the Japs do. AI stops at Tarawa usually. JFB's on the other hand make your life miserable.
