Avalanche & Overlord (original BTR)

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Avalanche & Overlord (original BTR)

Post by Dobey455 »

Hi, Guys.

I managed to get a copy of the original BTR and decided to start a new Allied campaign until the matrix release comes out. I played up till about mid Oct 1943 then started again because I got a hold of one of JC's OOB's that I thought was more realistic than stock.

Anyway....I'm back to 18/10/43 and I'm at AS:2, IND:12, TER:12 which I'm pretty happy with for now and I've turned Italy red as far north as Florence and am starting to hit targets further north from the new bases in Corsica and Sardina, so what I'm wondering is does the Avalance target restriction lift at a certain time or do I have to knock out every targtet on the list? I started the campaign by concerntrating pretty heavily on ground units, but I shifted away from that cause it was chewing up too much of my resources for too little return.
I know that you can speed up (or slow down) the time at which the restriction lifts but approximately when should I expect it to lift?

Also does anyone know when the "Overlord" restrictions start and end? Which commands are affected by it?

Thanks in advance for any help.

there was a bug in the old game, it didn't count most of the targets in Avalanche & Overlord as being damaged, so we could never get that to end (go to the target list and it would show as damaged, go to Avalanache and it would show as no damage, Ports were one)

so, pretty much, look for 12th and MED to be locked into Avalanche for most of the game

the 15th will come and go

for Overlord, offhand, I think it starts around April 44 (two months before the landing ?)

2nd Tac & IXth will be pretty much locked in, with some side calls for V-Site attacks
VIIIth and BC will get locked, but can be freed, but don't plan on them being anything by Overlord, and jump on any freedom you get during this time

but overall, you want to build up a point total before you get locked in, as you can be locked in until the breakout, the Allies can lose during Overlord, or the Industry can repair itself pretty well during this time

way back when, the first game I won as the Allies, I went back and looked at different saves and seen I was one point away from losing the game at one time

yea, troops are flak traps (as they were in real life, only more lowlevel)

and just in case, level bombers cause distrupion damage, FBs kill things

if you got questions post ask away, with me, Swift and Shaggy around, we got a pretty good idea of what is going on, plus others will chip in :)

Thanks for the quick response HS [:)]

Will these target restrictions be the same in the Matrix version? (minus the Avalanche Bug ofcourse).
With Overlord I was expecting the VIII to be taken off strategic bombing for a while, but was hoping I would still have BC to hit the reich [:(]

The more I play the original game the more I find myself thinking "Geez, this is a great game, if only this bug or that bug didn't happen it would be brilliant" So I am certainly looking forward to the re-worked version.
In particular my pet peeves are the "dover" bug affecting fighter sweeps and close escorts in the Med, And particularly aircraft not fighting back once RTB. the bulk of my escort fighters are shot down when returning to base because they just won't fight back. Seeing a half dozen Thunderbolts from one of my best groups go down from attacks by a single Me-110 or 410 really ruins my day [:@]!

yes, the manatory targetting will be the same, but hopefully with better chances to break out of it

Yes the Dover Bug is dead

Yes the RTB fighters can fight back 9not always, but they can)

RTB can also start fights on there own

Fighter Bombers will fight, of course, FBs by nature are not always the best of fighters, so just because they can fight, don't mean they will always do good at it

FBs can also escourt other FBs (so you plot a raid with some Canes, you can put some Tiffies on top of them for protection, HINT, don't try it the other way around !)

for BC, they were very importent to the pre D-Day bombing and afterwards as well
