Small Addition to Spinel's Data Mod

Post by GaryChildress »

I posted this on the CSO forums as well. I want to get peoples' reactions to this mod before I offer it for download.

Basically I took Spinel's Data mod and added US Ranger and US Airborne teams to it. I couldn't find a lot of info on the Web on squad composition for Modern Ranger and Airborne forces but this is what I came up with in the internim based upon what scant info I could find. Please let me know if you spot anything that looks wrong with the composition of these teams.

Thanks.

OK. Here are the latest teams. A couple notes:

An "A Fire Team" is simply a team with the squad leader, comprising a total of 5 men. All other rifle "Fire Teams" are 4 men strong and are led by a team leader instead of a squad leader. So if you wanted to create a Ranger or Airborne squad you could do it in one of two ways.

1. Using 3 slots in your battle groups you could have a squad leader and two regular fire teams

or

2. Using 2 slots in your battle group you could have an A fire team and a regular fire team.

Second thing to note. The AT team in the bottom left corner is a Carl Gustav team (used by the US Rangers). The graphic for the Carl Gustav is the closest match I could find for it in the existing game graphics.

Do we know......Does it make a difference if a Squad Leader (or Commander) is part of a unit.....or simply a unit by themselves (their own unit/team) within the game - Does the game AI treat it any differently??

In a way, it does. The AI tends to go for those "targets" that have the greatest value (and it isn't just the value, but a whole long and convoluted set of calculations that are still poorly understood by us laymen).

Basically, a command team has a higher priority if a lot or all of the other factors are near equal. The AI will spend more time and assets trying to kill a single command unit than it will a rifle team, even if the fire team can be killed or reduced to ineffectiveness a tad bit easier. So while a single command unit (such as a lone Squad Leader) gives you more flexabilty in your tactics, it also can be a liability because the AI will try to kill it as soon as possible.
C'est magnifique, mais ce n'est pas la guerre.
