Fix bayonets on the Stuka!

Post by Gunner98 »

Playing around with the on-board Stukas and discovered two things to watch out for.

Opportunity fire: If the Stuka has enough AP left it will use its bombs for opportunity fire and therefore waste any chance you had of a targeted strike. So you want to a) use up all the Stuka's movement each turn until you decide to engage a target, or b) restrict opportunity fire.

The Other tricky thing to watch for is that the On Map bomber is susceptible to Close Assault!! I was flying around and found some enemy units approaching via a wooded road, I thought Ah-Ha, time use my Stuka as air reconnaissance and call in a good sized artillery strike - wrong move! The AI surrounded my Stuka and close assaulted it - first recorded incident of a bomber getting captured while in flight! I don't think we can do anything about this due to the limits of the game, I guess we should be happy with the feature and do what Jason suggests in the Boot camp - get in, bomb, get out.

I had the same thing happen to me with a Storch Recce. One minute the plane was there, next minute some enemy rifle platoon comes up and *poof*, no plane.[:D] But after I got over the surprise, I kind of like it. Keeps an enemy plane from parking next to units that have no AA. Maybe it simulates small arms fire?[;)]
