Starting up a battle

Post by Grah31 »

Downloaded the game at the weekend and am blown away by it. However, I am having trouble setting up a battle. I fire up the battle program (independently and from the command center ) and select hotseat game. I cannot choose a particular player team from here and only have Select Random Player Team and Select Random AI team. When I do then I occasionally get the team I want, but often get one of the other teams (red rather that yellow for instance). Am I missing a trick? I’m running on Windows 95. Maybe that is causing it?
TIA

Some questions. Do you have any initiated team? Do you have all teams initiated?
The program will look for the team named team1 (in the data folder, created in the hq module)when loading the 1st team in a battle (blue team), if it doesn't exist you can't load it into the 1st team slot and have to go for random. If you try calling yellow, green and red teams the module will look for the team2, team3 and team4 files respectively. It'll only load those that exist. But all this is in the manual.

Thanks Iceman. I scoured what documents I could to get this info but couldn't find it. Are you saying that if I want to fight with team three (green I think) I have to have at least a 3-sider battle?

Yes, thats the way in v1.4. In TOS:WS you can load any team on any position.

I may have missed what TOS:WS is. Is that the cash-money one?

I found, when I started (a few weeks ago), that the teams that I created (in HQ) would get wiped out (and run out of money) very easily. In version 1.4, you can play single titan matches, so you can play a team consisting of a single jock (so you have more money to spend on his/her titan), and the early fights are tactically simpler to fight than multi-machine battles. You can then add more jocks to your team as you earn more money.

Don't forget that he'll be your manager and your mechanic, so either you'll be paying exorbitant amounts of cash for titans and repairs, or you'll have to raise the 3 skills associated with those tasks (ok, you can leave leadership for later) which will slow your 'other skills' progress. The amount of cash you get from a fight is dependant on you business skill, so if you don't raise this one you'll be *paying* to fight!

To sum it up : Hire 3 jocks ( 75000$ ), max out leadership on the first, business on the second and damage control on the third. Max out your leader *before* you hire the next two.

If you want to fight with just one jock make it your manager cause he will be responsible for your reward ( the game will hand out a fixed amount of money plus the salvage from gathered emeny titans which is modified by your managers skill ). The mechanic can stay at home to do repairs afterwards.

Re: single player team.
Thanks for the note about costs, Iceman. I seem to be ahead; playing rookie AIs, I've only lost once in 6 battles (and still got paid about 100k), and have gained one enemy titan. I've advanced once (and was then able to start adjusting my business skill).
It's slow, but seems to be working.
