WWII Campaign question

Post by Pug »

Could someone give me an idea how the computer builds an OPFOR in a given random battle within a campaign.

Specifically, does the computer get a certain number of build points? Is the number of build points a ratio of the total cost of my core units? Does the computer get less hardware if I don't spend all my core buildpoints. Etc. etc.

In general, I'm wondering if I can manage my core force in such a way as to nurse the battle generator into giving me battles more to my taste.

If nobody knows the answers off-hand, can anybody point me to a place that might?

Goes into Mike Woods territory I think but here's a try.. Image

Yes Pug, your force value is used as a base when the computer buys it's troops. I think for a meeting engagement the points are similar, while if it advances/assaults it gets more. Twice as much in assault or so.

Also it was mentioned in some post waaaay back that computer buys troops in cycles. It first buys a pile of infantry. Then armor, if it has points. Then arty. If it still has points it starts again from infantry.

How it decides what exactly to buy, I have no clue. Again we hope Matrix Guru's enlighten us Image

Dunno about your tastes but I think it is pretty impossible to get certain kind of battles...unless you buy very few troops thus ending up facing an infantry horde. And I think few of us like that.

This may be an obtuse question, but how about the 'unused' force points? In my current campaign, I have a couple thousand points saved up for a rainy day. Will these points contribute to the computers total?

Not until you use them. Its the cost of your current force structure that is the basis for the AIP to buy forces. If you spend your horded points on more expensive upgrades, then the AIP will get more points too. If you spend your points on "fix all" but don't increase the cost of you force, the AIP won't get a bigger one either.

there was a post a week or so ago where Paul stated that there is a number in the encyclopedia and in the oob editor that determines the AI choice of equipment. I think its rated 1-10 or 1-6.
What this does for example Imagenot sure if its high or low #'s) say equipment with a 1 is really likely to be bought by the AI and 10 for example is not. I could have the numbers reversed. I look at it like a rarity factor. The number in question can be changed in the OOB editor. I wish I could remeber the post that talked about it.
hope this helps. I try to find it or the # itself to help when I start playing today.

Looking at the OOB editor reminded me it has to do with the second # in the radio box.
For example I just look at an Anzac vehicle and it said radio 90. 9 is the radio # and 0 is the # the AI would use to decide how likely it is to purchase it. As I said though, I cant remeber if a high # or a low # is rare.

Those radio codes go something like this:

0 = Common
1 = Rare
2 = Very rare
3 = Formations only (will not buy them unless they are a part of larger formation)

This is the 2nd number in the radio code. First number is the chance out of 10 of unit having a radio.
