miller and me started our PBEM (scenario 16, he plays the japs) few days ago and are now in the middle of august 1942.
GG, buna and the solomon area are under japanese control.
PM is still under allied control and the battle has not reached its peak. i lost the CV wasp in a early carrier battle and in return, the zuikaku and shokaku are damaged and should be in dry dock now.
miller lost 4 CA in the last turn after a surface battle at PM and the obligatory air attacks from there at daylight. beside that, we both lost some CL, DD and AP/AK.
at the air, miller dominates at the moment..his zeros from lae shot down 19 planes in the last turn. the air group of one other badly damaged carrier is at PM now to reinforce the defence there. the carrier is on its way to PH and unfortunary, it will not come back soon.

a hero is gone...
over PM, the allied had to take a hard hit today. in a fierce air battle against a overwhelming japanese strike force, SLDR U.Greenwell of No. 75 Sqn RAAF was shot down and unable to bail out...after he shot down 11 japanese planes (4 at the last day of his life).
he and his courage will be missed in the comming battles.

I am certainly in a hole in this game. After I failed to take PM on a shoestring my opponent has turned it into a fortress. The first CV battle was a draw, I sank Wasp and damaged Saratoga but my "Big two" are out of action for a long time. The next clash was a decisive victory for bigbaba as he sank Junyo and Zuiho without any loss. He also sank two BBs on a bombardment mission who did not follow orders and ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time.
My surface ships have performed poorly this game, I think he has won every night battle so far......not sure what my options are now. Do I try and take PM, knowing it will be very costly, go for an autovictory somewhere.....or dig in? Decisions, decisions.....

i would not say that i won every night battle in the game so far.
but the advantage of the allied is, that all battles happen at PM. so when a allied ship is damaged, it can be disbanded into the port, repair its flooding damage and fires and move back to brisbaine/nouma. actualy, i have a lot of CA and DD under repair. the japanese on the other side, have to retreat after the night battle with reduced speed what makes them excellent targets for the PM bomber groups.
i would say that we had a draw when it comes into the direct results of the night battle.

just looked up my ports..11 DD and 7 CA/CL are under repair now with 20+ system damage. most of them would be lost if they were not able to do emergency repairs at PM.

now that hurts..last turn, i sent over 56 B-17 and B-24 to lae to say gooood morning...and they were intercepted by 140 crazy japanese zero pilots. the result is: 17 B-17 and 2 B-24 will never come back to theis homebase.

for the japanese were damnd high. he had lost the entire KB, several BB/CA and a lot of DD/AP...i had lost 2 carriers out of 4 and unfortunary, the other 2 were in PH because of very high syystem damage. also, my 2 BB were in nouma with nearly 30 system damage. miller had also managed to destroy nearly 120 2E and 4E bombers as he took efate.
i looked at the situation and was sure, that i can not prevent a japanese AV. all i had were some CA as capital ships while he still had several BB and with my bomber groups decimated at efate, i had no chance to bomb his bases around luganville into "stone age". with my 2 BBs and 2 of my CV damaged, i simply had no offensive power remaining to take back the 2 bases. thats why i gave miller a GG saw the game as a japanese victory.
