Civil war AAR- Grymme & Bombur

Post by Grymme »

Since i just finished 2 PBEM.s i find myself having space for a little more gaming. Me and Bombur decided to make an AAR game of my civil war scenario. We will both post in this thread.

I play the union.

First turn i advanced and took a fortress on the missisippi. Not much else happened. During the conf turn it seems he made an unsuccesfull assault on one of my INF divisions.

Everywhere local confederate militia seem to appear. Really anoying.

Arghh....my recon gave me the false information that the enemy unit had a very small readiness...it costed me lots of units...

Yeah.. i tried to give recoon a bigger impact in the game.

From the mod thread.

- Regular infantry, engineers and field and other artillery now has no recon points. Recon value to see complete unit changed to 200

Cavalry and irregular INF has high recon. I think sharpshooters and staff have some recon also.

3d turn.

The advance down mississipi continues. An confederate division was crushed with little losses for the glorious union.

I am just waiting for the "confederate masterstrike which might f*ck up my plans a little.

On the negative side it seems the union lost a naval battle on the mississippi river. Two gunboats were killed with no loss for the rebs.

The cumberland army is advancing towards bowling green. In this scenario Bowling green is a 1500 p production city. So The confederates should capture it early. However i guess its easy to overlook.

Losses starting to mount this turn.

- In the army of potomac we have started to cross the river.
- The army of cumberland is closing in on the enemy, still no clashes though.
- In the west a couple of hard battles were fought. Heavy losses on both sides but ultimatly the union carried the day.
- Rebel gunboats caught a division close to baton rouge and crushed it. The survors retreadet towards New Orleans.
- P.G.T Beauregard was appointed commander of the newly formed army of the carolinas. Together with some 3 divisions he will reak havoc in the backyards of the rebs.

Grymme and Bombur - Thanks for AAR - it's a nice change of pace from the WWII front.  I'll have to try this one against the AI.

Thanks,
Rick

Thanks Rick, always nice to be appreciated.

Below is the situation at the end of august 1862.

- The advance is going slow but steady. Last turn the confederates made some succesfull counterattacks crushing 2 divisions on the potomac front and 1 on the missisippi front. Losses were some 90 INF 18 ART for me and 50 INF for him.
- he attacked my naval forces in new orleans but lost 3 gunboats.
- On my turn i continue to grind his forces down. His forces in Mississippi are split in 2 and severely reduced to around 5-6 badly damaged divisions.

Think aren´t going well for thr Confederates. althought losses for the Union increased a lot in the last two turns. Charleston is under attack from sea and land, but our coastal guns sank one Union frigate. Fall of Memphis imminent.

Well, things are progressing

2-3 turns later.

- On the potomac front progress is slow. I called in 8 extra corps last turn and formed a new army. Gen. Pope just arrived and was appointed commander.
- Charleston was captured after an all out assault.
- Baton Rouge was captured after some bombardment. My river fleet is almost destroyd though.
- In the mississipi front i have surrounded parts of army of tennesse. Orders are to capture Gen. Longstreet if possible.
- Just got message that the Confederates will have access to Gen. JEB Stuart. Will he be able to turn the fortunes?

Found 2 small bugs in scenario. British intervene (although this should be disabled), and winter looks a little strange.

- Screenshot shows situation in januari 1963 on Potomac front. Progress here is slow slow slow. Captured 1 hex this turn.
- On the mississippi front all confederate troops are destroyed. Jackson expected to capitulate next turn.
- Situation on new orleans front good. No enemy resistance detected. but troops are halting for supply concerns. Construction of engineer corps have begun.
- In Army of the carolinas we have won a small battle. But progress is slow here also.
- Resarched improved sharpshooters this turn.

April 1863

- The confederates played the brilliant counterstrike card last turn. Reducing my readiness by 75 %. My forces are basicly reduced to scraps on the potomac front. losses really high also. Lost some 130 INF to a 70 INF kill ratio.
- On the tennesse front there are no confederate forces in sight. Progress is really slow with low readiness though.
- I am approaching Vicksburg, Columbia, Train junction and Savannah. Very doubtfull if i will be strong enough to capture any of them.
- Starting to think that i will most likely not win this scenario. The great early sucess made me basicly misshandle my supply situation that is causing the current slaughter of union forces.

Screenshot shows situation outside Savannah.

-The tide seems to be turning since we played that wonderful card. Enemy losses are very heavy and the Unoin forces seem to be suffering from low readiness. The offensive in the Potomac was finally contained, but we weren´t able to drive the enemy back. The enemy naval units surrounding Savanah also suffered heavy losses. It´s possible that the Confederates will be able to win, but we still must resist for about 12 turns.

The Union gave up invading the South and we signed a peace agreement. Now, we are moving to Spain to fight another Civil war.
