What's it like playing as minor

Can anyone give their impressions on what it is like playing as a country like Romania, Spain or Italy?

As a country like Czechoslovakia can you choose to fight the Germans or go peacefully into their arms?

Can you play as a group of countries like Sweden, Finland, and Norway and how is that experience?

If you play as a minor like Italy and Germany is your ally, can you combine your units with theirs for attacks in Russia or Afrika?

PS: by the looks of most of the recent forum posts, we definitely need an AAR from the developers or someone with good understanding of the game so that its feature set and many of these questions can be answered.

I have selected the minors as human play so I can control them later. They do very little until they join, so not much happening. I would not recommend playing them unless you also run the majors. Czechs are already subsumed as it starts at beginning of ww 2

I've been modding the standard 1939 scenario and have created a concurrent series of events which lead to a huge simultaneous conflict throughout the Middle East and a war between Greece and Turkey.

I've been play testing it by playing as a minor. I've played Turkey and I've played Greece (which is more interesting because the Axis attack in 1940. I really have enjoyed playing the Greeks who are a little 'souped up' via the event engine.

My mod has added Agean Ports and cities in the middle east as well as modified Turkish industry a fair bit. Very enjoyable. However, I'd like to do more with the mod except that I can't create alliances between minors, the event commands can't cope with minors occupying hexes as 'countries' (can only handle alliances) and I can't mod the hex terrains or add sea zones.

Nevertheless, with some mod work, playing as an individual minor while the war in Europe takes place around you is very interesting.
