Why hasn't Close Combat Series Evolved?

Post by pad152 »

I just purchased COI and yes it's still full of close combat fun but, from CC1 to the COI, the close combat series has remained basically the same, seems stuck and lacking new features.

No it doesn't need 3D graphics and I think there is still a lot of life left in the series but, something more than a repeat is needed to move the series forward.

1. Yes, it does need a major graphics update, to support higher res & wide screen support, larger text and make infantry bigger (us wargamers aren't getting any younger).

2. Weather, day/night missions.

3. Load/unload infantry, AT/Inf Guns.

4. A quick battle generator.

5. Larger maps with a zoom feature.

6. Reinforcements, something like we saw in the CM1 games.

7. New theaters of operations, new time frames, & unit types (Falklands, ColdWar, airborne ops, small boat ops).

8. Better pathfinding (put a final end to the tank dancing).

9. More advanced orders (maybe something closer to TacOps).

10. New mission types, rescue, escape, commando type, go blow up radio/radar station, etc.

I hope the next close combat game evolves the series and moves it forward to more modern gaming standards, incorporates some of the above new features and not just another repackaged/remake with minor updates!

Cross of Iron was a re-release of CCIII basically making it compatible with modern PC's and operating systems and getting it back on the market... additional content and enhancements were a bonus.

Additionally Close Combat is evolving further with CCM version 6 being developed for the US Marines.

It is hoped this too can be adapted to a commercial release in the not too distant future.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with my purchase of COI, I just want to see the series evolve, I may checkout CCM at a future date.

Im all for CC evolution, as long as it stays CC.

Top down, squads based WWII fun.

just better graphics, a zoom feature, better multiplayer and MMO support and AI.

CC is my favourite ever game in 20 years of gaming!

Couldn`t agree more. If it`s not broke don`t fix it please.

I`m having a Grand Time with COI vs the AI and all the mods available for it make it a great value.

There could be a game that you described (Close Combat Modern Tactics 2), but too few people were interested in it.
