Soviet 76mm guns of 1941 and beyond.

L-11 76mm/L30.5 This was the earliest 76mm gun used in the earliest T-34 the Model 1940. Not a bad a gun and could hammer German panzers of the time.

F-32 76mm/L31.5 This was the earliest 76mm gun used in the earliest KV-1 the Model 1940. It’s performance was just slightly better than the L-11.

F-34, ZiS-5 76mm/L41.2 Better than the earlier guns these were the standard gun used by the T-34 and KV-1 tanks in 1941 to 1943. The guns had similar performance only differing in that the ZiS-5 conformed better with KV-1 turret.

ZiS-3 76mm/L42 This was a 76mm divisional gun who some claimed was the most famous gun of the Second World War. It was mounted in the SU-76. The gun did have a slight performance advantage of the F-34 gun. The ZiS-3 is mistakenly attributed to be 51.6 caliber in length by several sites including the Russian Battlefield and Wikipedia.

F-22 Model 1936 76m/L51.6 This was a longer Soviet gun intended to be of semi-universal purpose use. It’s excellent ballistics characteristics were recognized by the Germans and over 1000 captured guns were reworked and became the German PaK 36(r) 76mm/L51.5.

Side note, in CM, all the captured units work better for the Germans because the home made ammo is better than the Soviet stuff.

For the Model 1936 this is true. With the Soviet ammo BR-350A this gun was barely better than the ZiS-3. With the German ammo it was almost as good as the German Pak 40. Loading chamber changes were also made to accept a longer round.

It needed a bit of rework as the original Soviet gun controls required 2 gunners, one to control aim in the vertical and one to control aim in the horizontal. So I guess the ZiS-3 with one gunner would seem a great improvement on this arraignment.

Didn't know that. I did find it annoying to try and make a battle with each side having PzIIIs or T34s, to be equal but could not.
