Thinking of buying- Have question

Post by jseckman »

If I play with college rules and make a college league does this game have recruiting? How does it work if I want to play a high school league?

I don't think the game has recruiting... I do have 2 college leagues (NCAA and CIS) and a high school league but I still haven't gotten around to doing a full season yet, primarily because none are anywhere near finished (especially high school... lol)

But I could be wrong.

But..................

MBsport is working on a recruiting program
so hopefully he will release that to the gen pop when he's happy with it.

What do you mean by that? How would you do that?

Also if I wanted to setup a high school league with high school playoffs is that possible?

Thanks

The playoff system is NOT generated by the computer. It has to be set up by the user. That being said, you can set up ANY playoff system you would like.

Basically, the game uses the same system to stock a league, regardless of the rules you play under.
You create a league, then you can either run a draft or have the AI fill all the teams.
Playing as high school or college doesnt have any different system than playing pro rules.
Choosing high school or college mainly affects the ratings for the players and how many years they play.
High School - 4
College - 5
Pro - until they crap out [:)]

The thing to remember about MaxFootball is it gives you the basic tools to run leagues of pretty much any type. However, all the extras and goodies that you might see in NCAA or Madden are not there. There isnt trading, or salaries, or recruiting.

Still, if you like football, I have to say it's worth every penny.
There is an update on the way that cleans up the game quite a bit. Im a beta tester, I can vouch for it [;)]

My recruiting nonsense is set up for CIS schools at this time and even that I'm not 100% happy with.  The problem becomes one of determining where a player selects to go.  At some point you will end up having more players choosing to go to some schools then others and that gets away from the automagic nature that I was working towards.

I'm into creating teams and plays and offseason things more than the actual gameplay and NCAA and Madden have gone totally away from that, that's why i'm looking for something else an ended up here.

Well, this is definately the game for creating stuff. Lots of user made things, just check the Graphics forum.
I have probably spent more time making leagues and teams and other things than playing the game.
The offseason aspect is a different story. Like I said above, it's basically a standard draft, regardless of how you play the game.

If we have answers to them. Yes.

You remind me of me about a month ago. Yeah, I'm still a newbie for the most part [:)]

Just remember - it will be frustrating at times but everything you want to do - can be done.  It just won't always be easy.

Im pretty sure 2.2.70 is the only update you need.

The updates are usually all inclusive...so 2.0 and 2.2.70 should work fine......

Welcome aboard!  The best piece of advice I can give to a new purchaser of MaxFB is to check out www.maxfb.com and other sites with user-made stuff like Mykal's and Thornbird's sites - they provide links in their user signatures.  User-made playbooks make a HUGE difference - check out the ones by Deft, dreamtheatervt, Scott_WAR, nmleague and hack153 (hope I got the names right).

Thanks Mykal and Gary - correct on both counts!  In addition to the user-made graphical enhancements and playbooks, there are great utilities in the 3rd party utilities area that help as well.  As Gary said, the community will answer any questions you run into as long as we can figure out the answer [:)]
