Japanese Ship Production
Sorry,if this was answered before, but I do not have seen it.Is it possible for the Japanese to build additional ships like CVs,CVLs without converting other ones or is this not implemented in AE??And if so,can I build additional CLs,DDs and so on,too??

RE: Japanese Ship Production
I don't remember off the top of my head - all the different conversions in AE - but in case you have not seen earlier discussions on this topic - I will point out that now - in AE - all conversions are defined in the editor (none are hard coded) so really the conversions are determined by the scenario designer. So you could convert BBs to XCV or TK to CVE or really anything you want - when creating a new scenario. For AE, we have pretty strickly stuck to those that were done historically, but many more are possible by use of the editor.

Just wondering about this. If Japan does really well in the game would it not be possible for her to build other war machines. IE Ships not historically built. I guess this would be for a wishlist post.[:D]

Sure, but as stock did, we will leave this for the modding community to explore, most of the MODs for stock include extra ships for both sides, some historical, some speculative. We will be adding in a whole lot more historical hulls, but almost no non-historical ones (I think there are maybe half a dozen exceptions even to this though).

You intend to use the Ise as a Escort Cv on oil transport runs?

I come back to my favorite repeat question of: Are NIsshin and Mizuho allowed to be converted into CVLs like Chitose/Chiyoda? Just the other day I found a 'Carriers of the 20th Century' book at Barnes and Noble that listed them as 'planned' conversions...

The editor allows any vessel to be converted to anything the scenario designer desires.
The AE master scenario only includes historically built carriers - for both sides.

I has hoped that something like the conversion of CS to CVLs or AKs to CVEs or the building of additional CS or CVLs would be possible in the Expansion from start. Why should the Japanese not have the chance to build more ships than historical? The only thing you would have to do is expansion of the existing shipyards belonging to the right shipclass. For example halting the production of the Shinano should free enough resources for the build of new CS or CVEs.Some fast CVLs would help the Japanes a lot in their struggle. The only thing you therefore need are new air wings/squadrons of carrier capable planes.Nothing that a Japanese player could not do with control of aircraft production and dependant industry. In former years I have played the old"Pacific War" and with the use of an editor I helped the Japanes with some new CVEs/CVLs/CVs,so that I could easily drive through the pacific with good carrier forces.
Just my six pence...[8|]

I would imagine an easy mod to add Nisshin to the conversion list. She was sunk in 1943, AFTER the IJN made the decision to convert Chitose and Chiyoda; why wasn't she taken in for conversion, was there a reason anyone can find? Lack of yard space? Someone still liked the ship type?
I wonder if Mizuho could/would have been converted; the IJN tried Diesel engines in her that failed completely, resulting in an underpowered ship. It would have been a pretty expensive conversion for a ship that couldn't sail with the fleet.

Nisshin was a special cargo/seaplane vessel and would have been on the list had she survived till later...probably. You never know what the IJN was thinking at the time doing all the silly conversions they did. On top of it building Shinano into some sort of supply ship when they needed fleet CVs.
Mizuho was anemic and would have been a CVE at best...not terribly great CVL material sadly.
Yamato, IMO the best looking Battleship.

This topic was discussed fairly extensively back in February:

From Post #42 on, information was presented (courtesy of Mike Solli) which would lead one to believe that while Mizuho would have been converted to a CVL, the IJN had other plans for Nisshin.

I'm not entirely sure the IJN would have gone ahead with these after losing 4 CVs. They were converting everything else that was far too slow to be a decent CV why not a decent one if it's available? Converting the Mizuho was silly, a CV moving at 22kts isn't worth much. They would have been better off making the Mizuho run on Nisshin's duty and then Nisshin could become a real CVL.
