A hard Scenario.

See how well you can do.

//~)(~)(~)(~)(~\\
----------------
Chepel Relief - May 22nd, 1942 (ORIGINALLY Kharkov German #7)

From:
III PzK
14PzD
36PzRg and 103PzGnRg

To:
[Relayed to 36PzRg, 1st Btn, 3rd Company Komm]

- Situation -

Hard fighting has already driven us back to the western edge of Chepel where we defend the river crossings.

Some of 103 PzGn Rg's, 3rd Btn remain on the other side of the river.

- Orders -

Reinforce 3rd Btn and hold river crossings.

(Behind you, other Divisions of III Panzer Corps (16PzD and 60th Mech Inf.D) are fighting off wave after wave of assaults as the trapped Soviet units attempt to break out. Our lines are long and stretched. Do not let them down.)

- Intel -

Enemy Assets-
We have been attacked by 242th Rifle Division and 114th Tank Brigade under Sherstiuk. Expect Inf Btn and full strength Tank Cpn, with Art Supp.

Approaching night will prevent either side's air support.

Assets-
4th Btn ATG elements were defending 3rd Btn, and they are still on site; 4th Btn Art 105c is available.

[I have been informed of your earlier engagement and consquenting diminished tank situation. Apply your surviving platoons the best you can. But Hold the crossings!]

----
((Player as German has

Remnant tank Company; plus one diminshed PzGn Cpn, incl standard Hev Wep, in support:

1 MkIVe HQ Pltn
2 MKIVe 1st Pltn
5 PIII 2nd Pltn

1 and 2/3 PzGn Pltns, w/ very delayed trns (rear mud)
2 HMG tms, w/trns
2 Mtr tms, w/trns

...And 3rd Btn's survivng Pltn and 2 HMG tms; on far side of river and near side positions respectively.))

((Move nothing; but tweaking ATG LOS/concealment might be good))

=======
- Historical Overview -

By the evening of the 22nd May, the trap had been closed on the Soviet 6th and 57th Armies. III PzK moving north had met 3rd and 23rd PzDivs driving south and together captured all crossings of the northern Donets river.

The Soviet response was both aggressive and desperate. Inside the pocket, shock groups from the 9th and 57th Armies would attempt to break out of the ring around them. From outside of the pocket, the newly formed Group Sherstiuk, named after its commander, Maj-Gen G I Sherstiuk, would attempt to break into the pocket and relieve the forces trapped there. Maj-Gen Sherstiuk was given the 242nd Rifle Division and the 114th Tank Brigade to accomplish his task.

Group Sherstiuk first threw themselves against the German positions defending the town of Chepel. Chepel was defended by III PzK's 14th PzD --36 PzRgt, and 103PzGn Rg.

- Historical Outcome -

The initial attacks of Group Sherstiuk had some success, and they drove the German defenders out of their positions in Chepel on 22nd May.
