1.03.14

Post by easterner »

Have played 3 solo games, France, Turk, GB

Impressive!!!! AI starting to make a game of it!

Problems noted:

1)Can not put two new corps on map. After placing the 1st, all other corps default to that same area. WORK AROUND: after placing and filling a corps need add a reinforcement to the map, the computer now allows a corps tp be placed there. CLUNKY, do not recall having this problem in earlier versions.

2)VP's. first turn AI receives incredibly high VP award. If this is for play balance it is too extreme, if a bug its nasty.

EXAMPLE: Apr 1805: Brits have 2% of VP, every other nation at 19%-20% i.e. 6VP for GB and 58-70VP for everybody else.

Tried both with & w/o Econ Manip. same result. Though I saw very high VP totals in Fr. & Tu game, monitored it from start in Brit game as orinally thought minors were using full Econ Manip in earlier games.

3) AI Issues

Alexander: use to sit out war in Circassia w/o even entering the capital there. Now goes on Putin Caucasian Tour knocking out Circassia, Chechnaya & Georgia...then sits out wars in Tiblisi. Can't even slip over border to Imertia.

Al's subordinates: Think Grodno is funkiest place in Russia to party down. Berstirred themselves once to kick my Turks out of Mother Russia, sent 1/2 of troops. Couldn't be bothered to send more after Turks later ate them.

Still invading Finland like clockwork. would it kill them to land troops in Sweden itself? Occassionally unable to take Abo even with no Swede's in town.

AI's have learned to capture minors, couldn't believe Austro-Pruss grabbed 1/2 of them before Fr. in '05. That's good, but still a high percentage of minors being left uninvaded or underinvaded (Au. vs. Naples). If MP is at war with another MP why is capturing the adjacent minor beyond them? In Brit game Fr lunged north chasing Brits out of Kiel and took country, never bothered to enter Hamburg next door or Oldenberg, Munster Hesse trio nearby. Allowed Hessian corps to leave via ship. Then return to restock INF and leave a 2nd time.

Turks still keen on declaring on Egypt but unenthused on entering it or going to Cairo.

Austro's learned to give Chas a big army, haven't learned 3 consecutive defeats mean, send more guys!

Brit's think their army best employed guarding Cork. None needed in Kent or London allowing 4 corps of tourists to vist London. Of course the tourists would have stayed home if Brit's had heard of ECONOMY OF FORCE. They skillfully blocaded every enemy fleet on map. When Fr broke out in Med they ignored them so Fr. took Sardinia & Malta. Then when Fr. headed for Oran thec Brits stripped Fr. of every fleet and bashed Fr back to Corsica from whence they quickly returned to Genoa. Unfortunately the entire Franco-Du fleet then hit the single fleey left in the channel, beat it 2-3x then walked into London. Brilliant plan, too much force expended. Brit then UNCON'd.

Pruss AI still good.

Span AI watched 1/2 their country get occupied before sending 2 of 9 corps to resist. I'd laugh but for 1st time ever they also unleashed Guerrilla's burning all Fr supply. Amazingly Sp surrendered just before the last Fr. unit retreated back to France.

1) right click a few times to clear the area setting.  click in the new desired area, you can add.
2) They are AI bonuses, I personally think they're still rollovers, possibly you need to adjust the bonuses based upon which countries are human, because a Human France is certainly going to cause computer GB (for example) more than Human Turkey will...  Still, I've won with Turkey on this version.

There was an idea in another thread to allow the user to set this VP bonus but I am still going to play around with this a bit since this is a good way to emulate bidding for the AI. I just cannot go crazy on it :-)

I think I've seen this for forever in the game. I've gotten in the habit of doing this:

Put the first corps on the map.

Click somewhere else on the map, inside the national borders of the owner of the corps. For France, inside France. For Sweden/Finland, inside Sweden. Etc.

Finally, right-click somewhere inside the same national borders.

This sequence seems to clear out the errant focus that seems to always happen when you are placing more than one corps.

The above is for when you want to place two corps from the same nation in two different spaces. However, if you want all of the corps/fleets to be in ONE pile (or, some of them), do this:

Open the corps/fleet counter window.

Click each corps and/or fleets you want to play once. Each will then have a different colored border.

Right-click to close that window.

Click the map where you want them. They will all get placed at once in that area.

NOTE: The same need to right-click as in the first solution can also apply in this place. That problem is based upon where the last action was taken on the map, and how the map/database was left (i.e. which corps/fleet had focus and where).

I think this is because the game gives all of the VP that the minor gets "free" all at the beginning of the game. I noticed that I gradually gained on them for as long as I played it. I haven't finished a game yet, but I have been gaining by enough that I will eventually pass them (since they aren't getting any NEW VPs).

AI Bonus

If this existed in the game since day one. I've won with all powers, easily overcome.

New version AI is more active, failed to overcome with Fr. though Sp, Fr, Tu (winner) all went out together. Couldn't push Sp. down enough, thanks to Guerrillas or Tu. do to bad forage and a spoiling attack from Au causing me 3 turn delay in Turk invasion.

sw30, how does one adjust bonus?

NEW CORPS PLACEMENT
Multi-clicking I've tried with mixed results, fails more than succeeds.

In recent game placed Swede Corps, clicked around, placed corps in Denmk. POOF Danes move to Modena!

I'm not sure what you are doing when placing new corps.

Left Click on the "Corps Counters Available" button.
Left Click on the Corps you have purchased.
Right click in the open big space on the screen, this brings back up the map.
Left click on the area you want the Corps to be in, the corps should appear.

As far as the AI goes, we are/were having this same discussion in another thread. I believe that, in the end, Matrix will end up adjusting the VP bonuses for AI considering that the AI no longer shoots itself in the foot as much. I have won all my games but with the new version it is very close even though I DOMINATE the entire map (own a lot of territory, got cond/uncond in a non-stop rotation form).
