Hello and some questions!

Post by vinnie71 »

Hi new guy joining up!

As any vets there can imagine I've got a couple of questions.

a) Skopje: How does the division of Serbia work out? If I knock it out early (ie 1914 by committing an extra army) the bottom part of the country becomes a kind of limbo where whoever passes 'gets' possession. Once I even saw the area join Bulgaria but I don't know how I did it (the Bulgarian army wasn't even remotely near at that time and Serbia had been knocked out by the Austrians alone).

b) When I conquered France, the German units in what is left of indipendent France, vanish. I know that some come back later on in the game but what 'upset' me was the fact that it seemed that only the B grade units returned. A lot of the premier units (including the Guard ) never returned. I know that the disappearing units is actually a feature but couldn't it be possible to return at least the best units of an army? If one is to keep a garrison, one would send his worst troops, right?

c) Is there a way to get rid of the Russian naval units in the Baltic? I mean, I sent my DN to hunt them down but they never really sink them. The Russians only got PDs and CA so how could they withstand the fire of dreadnaughts? Maybe I'm doing something wrong here.

Have to admit that this game has been a real treat so far!

a) it depends whether Bulgaria has already joined the war or not. the possesions are almost everywhere defined by the last unit that was there.
b) Just have a bunch of weak units ready to do the occupation job and not all just full powered a class corps
c) well if they never come out you cannot catch them. adding a cruiser to your squad should increase chances of finding enemy ships IIRC.

Well regarding a) there seems to be a rump Serbia if it gets knocked out early. When Roumania falls, even if it is conquered by the Austrians, the Bulgarians get Costantia. Maybe that's how Skopje should work out?

b) How do I do that? If I'm on the offensive I'll have Class A units in the forefront of the offensive. So it might be advisable to remove class A units from the front (ie the area that will revert to France on its collapse) and send them East.

c) So cruisers actually detect them? What about the Battlecruisers? Do them have the same effect?

Tnx

a) Historically the Austrians never made a final decision how to handle the occupied territories, how to split them up, how to integrate them into their state. For the Balkans it was unclear whether to include the entire Serbia, or to leave a Serbian rump state (still under control from Vienna) and also there was trouble with the Bulgarians about occupied areas. The final decision was postponed after the end of the war. Same story with Poland. Germany and Austria changed their plans all the time between 1914 and 1918. Sometimes Poland was supposed to become a new province of Austria, or Germany or an independent satellite state. Only with Romania a real definite treaty was signed. Further - all changes of the monarchies territories would also have caused a lot of debates about the internal structure of Austria-Hungary.
So my point is: The game cannot simulate this, because the way boarders would look alike after the end of the war is outside of the game - it ends with the end of the war.
I don't see any problem with the way it works now.

b) Just have some weaker units nearby when you think the collapse will come.

c) I believe cruisers are supposed to have a higher detection rate. But still there is no guarantee that you will find the enemy vessels. Battlecruisers should have the same effect.
