Airwing increased in size beyond carrier capacity

Post by Kingfisher »

Just had Hornet take two torps while covering a landing at Buna. About 2/3 of the airwing managed to divert to PM. Left onboard was about 5-6 A/C from each squadron. The computer did not automatically seperate her into her own TF w/ destroyer escort, and since the invasion force was almost unloaded I decided to keep her there within the protective umbrella of the TF's CAP and AAA.

After a couple of turns the invasion is completely unloaded and the TF starts heading back to Noumea. I then check on Hornet to see if the FLOT damage was repaired, and was surprised to see she had nearly her entire airwing on board. I checked PM to see if by chance the diverted A/C returned home but they were still there.

Hornet now has two complete SBD squadrons at 18 each, 15 TBFs and 7 Fighters. At the same time PM has another two squadrons of SBDs at 13 each plus 7 each of the fighters and torp bombers.

What to do?

Use them!  Send the fighters to the CV and they'll merge back into 1 unit if they're still flying the same plane types.

I never thought that doing an AAR would be so time consuming and difficult.

I agree with the fighters but what about the SBDs and TBFs?

Should I somehow get them back to Noumea and disband them back into the pool?
