A Most Critical Hour

Post by GaryChildress »

Seeing how the AAR forum is pretty empty I thought I'd add one.

This will be a relatively short AAR picking up in March 24, 1943 from the middle of a 1939 start versus the AI. I'm the evil Axis.

The Germans have conquered all of Europe (including all of Scandanavia) with the exception of Greece. Britian is almost completely alone except for the US entry into the war. So far no sign of the Americans though.

Egypt is now in Italian hands. However, things are not all blitzkrieg in the sun. The Axis oil reserves are down to 178 and manpower has entered a stage of decreasing quality.

The Germans have advanced through most of Russia with some difficulty. However, with fuel being ratioined, advance in the north and central theaters has come to almost a complete standstill. Only Army Group South has been given the green light to try to capture the Soviet oil fields in the Caucasus. From here on out, until more oil is secured, Army Group South and the Italians in Iraq have priority. Already the Italians are threatening to take the oil fields in Mosul. In the North advance has stopped halfway between Smolensk and Moscow and is now mostly composed of infantry. Tanks have stopped dead in their tracks. After a severe winter which greatly reduced movement of my armies, it's time for the 1943 Spring offensive to begin full throttle.

OK. So taking the oil fields at Maikop and near Grozny were a little too easy, especially when you have 4 panzer korps massed in the area. It looks like the dire shortage is starting to curb a bit now. Also the Italians captured the oil at Mosul.

Most of my panzer korps now have leaders attached to them, and with more oil fields in my control, there really isn't anything the AI can do to stop me.

For my next game, I may do a little tweaking in the TXT files to see if I can make it a little harder on the Germans.
