Undefeated, Untied & Unscored Upon?

Post by Old Coach »

That team was Tennessee in 1939. Duke also accomplished that feat in 1938. You know from my posts, that my interest with MaxFB is in recreating historical football seasons/team/leagues and having gameplay results that mimic, as close as possible, the real thing. In my Best of 1940 College League, teams such as Michigan, Boston College, Duke, Alabama, Tennessee and Texas have been set up to have great defenses. I wonder if it's possible to set up a team that doesn't give up a single point over a 10 game schedule. It was a rare occurance in real life. Shutouts are not common in MaxFB gameplay. If the game is a mismatch, a shutout is possible, but teams with decent offenses are probably going to score. Last night, I played Tennessee and Tulane and I thought I was going to get a shutout for Tennessee as they lead 28-0 with less than a minute to play, but Tulane scored on a 34 yd TD pass with 32 seconds to go. In 2 games Tennessee has won 20-7 and 28-7. That's averaging giving up only 7 points/game. That's great defense, but shutting out 10 opponents is simply unreal and I doubt is possible in PC gameplay. I think the only way to possibly make it happen is set all the pertainent ratings to 99.

An unrelated comment/question- I wonder if it's possible to get inside the field graphics and change the goalposts to the old school "H" posts? I suggested many months ago that Dave add an option to the rules selection screen to choose between the current goal posts and the old school "H" posts. He didn't respond so I guess it was deemed an unnecessary request.

It would be nice to be able to get into all of the graphics files.

I don't think David wanted even the most dedicated modder to do that though.

I remember some time ago someone , maybe on this forum, mentioned that the main graphic files could be unwrapped or unpacked- whatever the proper term is- but it was a huge file and too big to upload to FBMAX.

Again, I thought it was a reasonable request to add a button in the rules section to choose goal post style. We could choose almost anything else related to the field size, etc. Maybe it would have meant too much monkeying around in the innards of the game. It would have been nice to have at least gotten an explanation or comment yea or nea.

Considering how long you've been on the beta team, i'm suprised David never put that in there.

It was Gil (local8h) who unpacked the goal posts sometime ago
he was given a hands off request by David, so thats what he did, left them be

I know because I was going to alter them for VCFL Commish
and talked about it with Gil, when he told me what David had said to him

So I also followed suit and did nothing

This may not sound too great, but David seems to be out of the loop now or least that's the impression. We're kind of left to our own devices with bugs and such. Are you currently in contact with David? I've been on the beta test team since 2003 and he hasn't answered any of my emails or posts.

MyKal,
My question about whether someone was in contact with David was, I guess, thrown in your direction. Obviouly you're not. I don't know that anyone is.

none of the former test team that I have spoken too, have heard from David in a good while to the best of my knowledge
I think David has totally hung up his fighting gloves for good.

I'd like to be able to mess with the player models.  Sometimes during gameplay certain players will all of a sudden have a body that should belong to a DL or OL, then it goes away.  I'd love to be able to have my 6'4 270lb RB have a bigger frame than most.
Peace out

Yer I've seen a WR of 165lbs on punt coverage
who looked like he was Borrowing Warren Sapp's body for one play
but its such a small bug...... hardly worth the effort it would take to correst. IMO
