1.25 rail movement STILL broken

Post by dpstafford »

It has been awhile since I risked idleness by trying to move a British unit by rail across France. There had been several patches since my last try, so what the heck!

So I tried to move a British HQ from Cherbourg to Rouen, what three hexes, with literally thousands of French rail points accumulated. And no enemy or even friendly units any where near.

And it failed to move. This day one bug is STILL not fixed--unbelievable!

And I may well lose the game because this HQ is going to have to hoof it across France to get to the front.

Send me the coded!!!!! I'll fix it myself!!!

All I can say is send me the autosavemove file (unless its a PBEM) and I can answer why that happened.

As for the code, although that would make my life easier, I promise on a stack of compiler manuals there is nothing in there such as the following :

if ((unit.nation = Britain) and (unit.Location = Cherbourg) and (unit.mode = Rail) and (PlayerID = dpStafford)) then
abort := true;

Well, thanks for the quick response, but unfortunately it is a PBEM game. One I am probably going to lose because I can't get units to the front.

Hey, I didn't say it would be easy, but I make a lot of money out in the real world ferreting out bugs in other people's code.

But seriously, FIX IT! It happens to almost everyone, almost every time!

send me your PBEM file, the one that was sent to you from your opponent before you made your move. I will then make the same moves and that hopefully will show me the problem.

As for the code thing, I'm willing to bet I can't afford you.

I've noticed this happen in Britain from time to time too - plenty of rail points, no amphibious, not to an over stacked hex, but failed rail movement. Haven't progressed beyond 1.24. Looks like I'll be skipping 1.25 since 1.30 is out there. Sorry - I can't reproduce this - it simply did not bother me since British units generally have to wait for sea transport anyway.

The topic here is British units IN FRANCE.

And what Frank claims to have found and fixed for 1.30, that units couldn't move by rail on the first turn after an amphib move, seems consistent with the inconsistent reporting of this problem.
