Mini-maps

Post by rickier65 »

I'm going thorugh a random tutorial to taeka break before starting my next map.

Playing the game reminds of something important. I use the minimap display A LOT.

ANd it works a lot better to have colors on the minimap that give good contrast to both Russain and German units. Looking at the map I did for Piepsk, the german and russian units don't stand out as well as they do on the stock maps 'Minimaps".

I think on future maps I'll probably revert back to the color scheme used in the stock miniaps for this reason.

I haven't really decided on the next map/scenario yet. But being a linear kind of guy, I'm thinking of a Barbarrossa Scenario. (unless something happens and all of a sudden, I can do a Polish campaign)!

Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.

RE: Mini-maps

I've gone through several methods of doing minimaps. The method I do now and doing for all my maps is to use three overlays I used for making the regular terrain map as described by Stridor. I use the structures overlay, the woods overlay and the road overlay. The background map is the overview from SceneEdit.

I change the reserve red color 'impassible' structure terrain to reserve 'ruin' ochre color. (Sort of neutral but you still can identify it.) So it wouldn't look like Russian units. I don't use blue of the reserve stream color because it looks like German units.

Here is the minimap to my new Voin map.
