Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Is there any effective means of playing this game WITHOUT being glued to the PC during turn resolution ?

well, on defence, I would say not, though you can set the different HQ's to react under AI control

but on Off, once the turn is plotted and you click go, you can turn off the messages, turn on line display, and click on Urban for the map, and let the turn zip along

you don't have to watch the turn, you get reports that let you get a idea of what happened during the turn (afterward)

If you play in this manner, do you miss information that you'd otherwise gain from being glued to the PC ?

Also, just out of curiosity, what is the cycle time for a turn (yeah, I know it depends, just looking to see if it in par with WitP or way longer/shorter) ? And are turns, 1 day or can they be set to 2+ days turns (similar to WITP).

turns are one day (basicly 24 hours, if something is going on)

turns can be very quick, if nothing is going on, or long depending on how long you have planes in the air

(say, the weather is bad over Germany, and in the Med, but France is clear, you may plots some coastal stikes, and call it a day, another day, it may be clear all over, and the moon is just the way you want it, so raids are going to be taking off all day and night long)

some people have joked that, this is the only game that can take longer to play then the real war took, but that is not really true, it just can feel like it

BoB can zip along pretty well, BTR can be like WitP, where you always sit there and wonder if you got to everything you needed to do, and like WitP, it can be overwelming with the details and size

I have played both, and have run many turns in a day, and other times it can slow way down

if you do sit there watch the entire turn, you may pick up some details, see what you did wrong, or what went right, you may pick up some ideas of how the defence is set, but Recon can do much of this also

but as you say, play style will come in and take over (in PBEM, during the replay, I tend to nod off)

Scout1,

I prefer to watch the progression of each turn as the Allies since I can pick up a lot of intel about the units engaging me, their operational areas and my successes and failures. Although you can turn down all the feedback and turn up the speed and go make a ham sandwhich while it runs. However I find the post day reports are not as informative as I really want to be as I work at defeating the Luftwaffe.

My playstyle is fairly analytically intense I think. I play this game as if I were actually commanding the allied air forces in the war. I also am reading a lot of the history as I play through this game and that is adding a lot to the fun for me.

I have not yet operated the Luftwaffe but I believe that you really need to work them as the turns progress in order to really utilize them. I dont trust any AI to operate my forces. I think I can make much better decisions than the AI can.

Later,
KayBay

as Allied it depends on tactic and game date.

in the beginning ( till early 44 ) I watch most of the turns, but after that only very few, because I beginn to ignore the losses
